Main Purpose

Trafigura is seeking an experienced Senior Fuel Oil Derivative Trader to join our dynamic trading team. This senior-level position requires a proven market leader with extensive experience in fuel oil trading and the capability to drive strategic trading decisions in one of the world's most active commodity markets as well as a clear proven PNL track record in trading derivatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Minimum 5 years' experience in fuel oil trading within a major commodity trading house, oil company, or financial institution
• Senior-level experience as a desk lead, co-head, or equivalent leadership role in fuel oil trading
• Deep understanding of global fuel oil markets, including refining margins, shipping dynamics, and regulatory landscape
• Proven track record of profitable trading and P&L management
• Strong analytical skills with ability to assess complex market situations
• Excellent relationship management and negotiation capabilities
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related discipline)
• Knowledge of fuel oil logistics and storage operations
• Established network within the fuel oil trading community

Key Responsibilities

• Lead fuel oil trading activities across global markets, managing substantial trading books and P&L responsibility
• Develop and execute sophisticated trading strategies across the fuel oil complex, including HSFO, LSFO, and marine fuels
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with key counterparties, suppliers, and customers globally
• Provide market leadership and mentorship to junior trading staff
• Collaborate closely with logistics, operations, and risk management teams to optimise trading opportunities
• Monitor market fundamentals, supply/demand dynamics, and regulatory developments affecting fuel oil markets
• Manage trading risk within established parameters and contribute to overall risk management framework
• Drive business development initiatives and identify new market opportunities

Our fuel oil trading desk specifically focuses on high and low sulphur fuel oil, marine gasoil, and bunker fuels, serving refineries, shipping companies, power generators, and industrial consumers worldwide. The team leverages Trafigura's integrated approach, combining physical trading with our refining operations, storage infrastructure, and marine logistics capabilities to create value across complex supply chains.
