Role Summary/Purpose

The HR Manager will provide all facets of HR management for 2 operating entities located in Kansas City, Missouri and McPherson, Kansas, and provide strategic partnership with the Business Unit Leaders and the extended Senior Leadership Team. This role will be critical in working across the Freight Global Services Supply Chain and more broadly to proactively identify and execute on organizational priorities and drive culture change.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serve as active business partner for multiple operating entities. Provide guidance and support for full suite of HR functions, including talent management, performance management, organizational change, policy and process implementation and facilitating team performance.  

  • Partner with business management to develop appropriate human resource plans in support of key business needs in a dynamic environment and develop / implement appropriate change management plans as required. Including recruiting, selection, as well as restructuring, and reduction of the workforce as needed.

  • Partner with HR Centers of Excellence in areas of organizational talent & strategy, compensation & benefits, HR Operations, and employment counsel to ensure alignment and effectiveness.

  • Oversee labor relations for the sites. Ensure alignment with Supply Chain and broader Wabtec labor relations strategy.

  • Serve as proxy for the Freight Global Services Supply Chain HR Leader; drive enterprise-wide initiatives and engage with senior leadership team to further HR and organizational objectives.

  • Directly manage and coach the HR Generalist in every facet including labor relations, HR business partnership, talent management, and policy and process implementation.

  • Provide coaching, advice, council, and support for Leadership, managers, employees and peers.

  • Act as an impartial advocate to ensure that all individuals receive fair and equitable treatment.

  • Will be expected to be on-site during normal business hours and be willing to travel to 2nd plant as needed.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college

  • At least 2 additional years of experience in a variety of Human Resource positions both staff and client based

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial / Labor Relations or Business Administration

  • 5 years of experience preferred

  • Prior labor relations experience; including union relations, contract negotiations and grievance resolution strongly preferred

  • Prior HR Business partnership experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred

  • Prior management of a team strongly preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Ability to influence & engage at all levels of the business

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects and drive change

  • Strong coaching skills
