Stryker is hiring a Senior Modeling and Simulation Engineer, R&D - NPD (Hybrid) to support Stryker’s Joint Replacement business in Mahwah, NJ!   

At Stryker, we are revolutionizing the way orthopaedic implants and robotic procedures are designed and implanted with industry-leading modeling and simulation technologies. We are seeking a Senior Engineer to apply and develop innovative simulation methodologies to characterize and optimize next-generation implant designs, processes, and surgical procedures as part of an expanding Modeling and Simulation team.

Work Flexibility: Hybrid, with a preference of 2 days per week in the office, at our Mahwah, NJ location.

What you will do:

  • Perform detailed literature searches to provide a basis for analytical methods and assumptions.

  • Execute static and dynamic nonlinear multibody finite element analyses that include deformable contact, advanced material properties and multi-physics required for realistic simulation of in vivo kinematics and manufacturing process.

  • Develop new techniques and implement automation using custom programming when required.

  • Evaluate analytical results and recommend design, process, or material changes based on characterization.

  • Develop and validate analytical models to gain further insight in research related issues.

  • Collect comprehensive physical testing, manufacturing and clinical data to develop and validate simulation models following the latest industry standards.

  • Demonstrate refined technical report writing external publication writing skills.  Author reports necessary for 510(k) submission, abstracts to orthopaedic industry related conferences, and articles for peer reviewed journals.

  • Contribute on cross-functional teams to develop next generation technologies and devices.

  • Become familiar with relevant aspects of competitive technologies to develop innovative solutions to satisfy customer needs.

  • Interface with clinical advisors to gather input for evaluation and development of new technologies.

  • Review, select, and coordinate proposals for modeling & simulation-based research at outside universities and laboratories.

What you need:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science or engineering discipline.

  • 2+ years of engineering experience required. Experience with modeling & simulation-based research required.

Preferred:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.

  • Medical device industry strongly preferred.

  • Experience with finite element analysis (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus, LS-Dyna), CAD (e.g. Pro/Engineer, Solidworks), custom programming (e.g. Fortran subroutine, Matlab, Python), and other analytical based research tools. Experience with musculoskeletal simulation packages (e.g. OpenSim).

  • Ability to contribute to complex discovery-based research initiatives from concept through final recommendation.

  • Understanding of mechanics, engineering principles, new technology, and product development processes.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to deliver aspects of innovative analytical, process, or material solutions in the research arena.
