Capital Area Head Start is seeking a Family Support Specialist to join our mission of making a difference in the lives of children, empowering parents, and strengthening families.

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for providing direct services to families with multiple and complex needs. Services include education, home visits, goal development, access to community resources and attendance monitoring and support.

Head Start Family Support Specialist work 10 months out of the year and enjoy summers off while earning a minimum of $16.60 per hour. Schedules are based according to the school year and include 1477.5 work hours. Minimum Educational Requirements: (One of the following)

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience working with at risk families
  • Associate’s degree in human services and 1 year of experience working with at risk families
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field

Additional Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field or the ability to obtain one within 18 months of employment
  • Significant experience/knowledge regarding community resources including emergency assistance providers, understanding of community systems and programs and ability to navigate/access them with families
  • Intermediate computer skills, ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and learn web based systems
  • Valid driver’s license and access to properly insured vehicle, or public transportation
  • Successful completion of pre-employment process, including Criminal History, MVR, Child Abuse and FBI clearances
  • Experience in Head Start or Early Head Start is preferred
