About the role

Qwilr is seeking a skilled and experienced Head of Finance to lead our finance function. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned finance professional with a deep understanding of SaaS revenue and metrics, strategic planning, budgeting, reporting, and financial modelling. This role will be instrumental in elevating our finance function and will report directly into our co-founder & CEO, Mark, to help drive Qwilr to new levels of financial success.

We are looking for someone who understands strategic financial reporting and decision making. We want someone with a background in “practical/commercial” finance, with the skills and knowledge to help shape and influence Qwilr’s strategic financial direction. While a basic understanding of core accounting is ideal, we really want someone who can build a strategic finance function from the ground-up, design new reporting frameworks, and help leadership take Qwilr to the next level.

Importantly - while you will have a small team and the ability to grow it over time - we are looking for someone who is eager to roll up their sleeves and do the work directly. This is not a job where you manage a team to do the work - this is a job where you do the work alongside your team.

Also, at startups, cash is king. We love accrual accounting - but this is a role that requires the ability to accurately manage cash and cashflow as well.

What you'll do

  • Financial Leadership: Provide strategic financial leadership to the executive team, the CEO, and the board - offering insights and recommendations to drive the company's growth.

  • SaaS Revenue Management: Oversee all aspects of SaaS revenue recognition, including MRR/ARR analysis, churn analysis, and customer cohort analysis. Develop strategies to optimise revenue and growth.

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute financial strategies, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to support Qwilr's growth and market expansion.

  • Financial Modelling: Create and maintain financial models to evaluate the impact of various scenarios on the business. Use modelling to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Reporting & Metrics: Design and maintain comprehensive dashboards and reports that provide real-time insights into the financial health of the company, enabling data-driven decision-making.

  • Accounting Oversight: Oversee the day-to-day financial and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.

  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

  • Investor & Board Relations: Act as a point of contact for investors and work to enhance relationships through transparent reporting and strategic updates.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks and opportunities, ensuring the company's financial health and stability.

About you

  • You have professional accounting qualifications - such as CA/CPA.

  • You're a data-driven thinker, skilled in working with both qualitative and quantitative data to inform better financial decision making.

  • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams to design better reporting frameworks and drive strategic direction.

  • You have proven experience in a senior finance role, with a strong focus on SaaS financial management.

  • You are exceptional at financial modelling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • You have a deep understanding of SaaS metrics, including MRR, ARR, churn, and customer lifetime value.

  • You are able to provide strategic decision support to leadership

  • You are able to assess the financial impact of potential business initiatives, investments, etc.

  • You have a good operating range. You can think strategically and summarise things at a high level, while also being able to roll up your sleeves and get into the detail when required.

  • Bonus points if you have meaningful experience in startups and/or with global entities.

Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other folks in minority groups tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point above, please still get in touch. We'd love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.
