What you'll do

We’re embarking on a new and exciting phase of the bank’s transformation agenda and party, customer and reference data architecture are at the heart of our mission to simplify, reduce risk and enable customer engagement and personalisation. This agenda is critical to driving simplification and delivering exceptional experience to our customers.

As a Data Engineer, Modelling, you’ll be looking to simplify our organisation by developing innovative tools that use forward engineering techniques to automate parts of the data design process, helping software engineers create data designs more efficiently and aligned to data standards. You’ll also collaborate with data architects and data modellers to codify data design patterns into reusable templates or modules.

We’ll look to you to collaborate with software engineers and data architects to understand the data design needs and ensure solutions meet their technical and operational requirements. We’ll also look to you to drive customer value by understanding complex business problems and requirements to correctly apply the most appropriate and reusable tool to gather and build data solutions.

In addition, you’ll:

  • Build advanced data design and data modelling aid tools that remove manual steps
  • Embed new data techniques into our business through role modelling, training and experiment design oversight
  • Deliver a clear understanding of data platform costs to meet your department’s cost saving and income targets
  • Develop APIs and interfaces for data design automation tools and widgets
  • Create training and communication material for built solutions
  • Document solutions and run knowledge sharing sessions
  • Ensure solutions meet data architecture and data management policies, controls and standards

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll need a strong understanding of data usage and dependencies and experience of extracting value and features from large scale data. You’ll also bring practical experience of programming languages alongside knowledge of data and software engineering fundamentals.

We’ll expect you to have an understanding of Conceptual to Logical to Physical forward engineering patterns including Relational, Dimensional, NoSQL, DataVault. Experience of working in a governed, and regulatory environment with a good understanding of modern code development practices is essential.

Additionally, you’ll need:

  • Experience of ETL technical design, data quality testing, cleansing and monitoring, data sourcing, and exploration and analysis
  • Knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, Snowflake, MongoDB and ElasticSearch
  • Knowledge of AWS data stack and automation and scripting including Python, Java
  • Experience with data processing tools such as EMR or Spark and metadata processing
  • Knowledge and experience with common IDEs
  • Knowledge of SparxEA or equivalent EA/UML modelling tool
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to proactively engage and manage a wide range of stakeholders
