About BMNT

BMNT is a government innovation company on a mission to make the world a better, safer place. We help customers solve the problems that cannot be addressed by traditional companies. We work on real innovation, not innovation theater. This means building and running innovation pipelines, powered by people and problems, disciplined by evidence, and accountable for results. We’re a tight-knit team of creative, engineers, makers, veterans, and policy wonks linked by a common goal: to electrify the way governments solve incredibly hard problems.

About the roles (**Contingent on a contract award.**)

Prepare to rise above the status quo. We are looking to create an Austin-based team of four to six people that includes roles for project management, market research, tech scouting, and engineering. Whatever role you fill on this small team, you will be a key contributor to the success of an Austin-based customer trying to identify, scope, and prioritize the right problems to work on – and then find, evaluate, and support commercial companies that can solve them.

The Engineer & Science SME be well-versed in the mission of the agency and conduct ecosystem engagements. They will understand the state of the art for science and engineering and apply their knowledge to the agency's technology assessments. They will do technical evaluations of companies and proposals, including assisting the Technical Point of Contact with:

  • Reviewing technical proposals and providing written technical assessments
  • Market research, topic preparation assistance, stakeholder coordination, metrics analysis, and preparation of briefings

Location

The roles are based in Austin, TX, with the expectation of being in an office at least three days per week. You may be required to travel to customer sites, including U.S. military installations, in the US and abroad.

What you will be doing

This team will be:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key government stakeholders and relevant ecosystems outside of government, including designing and facilitating public events.
  • Managing projects from inception to completion, including problem scoping, beneficiary discovery, market research, and experimentation.
  • Providing technical evaluations of companies and project proposals.
  • Researching relevant commercial technology and private capital markets for unique opportunities.

What we’re looking for

People with experience in:

  • Project and portfolio management
  • Evaluating early stage and venture backed companies
  • Building and maintaining relationships
  • Applying lean innovation principles
  • Areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

People who exhibit:

  • Creative approaches to solving problems
  • Discipline to prepare yourself and others for what’s next
  • The ability to self-organize like an entrepreneur, even if you’ve never been one
  • Clear thinking about the revolutionary yet attainable goals we set for ourselves
  • A sense of purpose, integrity, and mutual respect

Success looks like:

  • Moving toward the next thing, not away from the last thing. It’s the same direction, but a completely different energy. Don’t be stuck in the past, whether it's your successes or failures, or those of the team or company. If you do, you might miss what we’ve become, or the chance to shape it.
  • Balancing impatience and patience. Impatience to have a bias towards action, to not waste time, and to work with a sense of urgency each day. Patience to delay gratification, to wait for your actions to accumulate, and to trust the process.
  • Climbing the right mountain. The speed at which we execute is important, but it’s only relevant if we choose the right strategy in the first place and revisit it to make sure we’re on the right track.

**The roles discussed above are contingent on a contract award.**  If you are a self-starter with an obsession for outcomes, not activities and a history of achievements, and enjoy working on projects with collaborative and creative teams, BMNT could be the right place for you!

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
