JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Job Summary:

This individual will serve as a Tioga County Extension team member, assisting with the 4-H program for 4-H youth members and adult volunteer leaders. This position is based at Penn State Extension, Tioga County, Wellsboro, PA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, and projects with youth at local, area and state 4-H events.
  • Work with staff to create new county programs.  Support 4-H members, leaders and families in registering and attending programs and events. Coordinate registration, and supervision for 4-H members in programs.
  • Assist with coordination and delivery of the Ag Literacy School Enrichment and healthy living program in the Tioga County schools.
  • Assist the Educator in reaching new audiences.
  • Provide communication to volunteers, youth, and parents about upcoming programs and opportunities.
  • Monitor children and be responsible for the whereabouts, supervision, and safety of all children registered for the program.
  • Participate in regional or state events as appropriate.
  • Provide support at traditional 4-H events by recording registration, chaperoning, conducting workshops, and assisting with the management of shows and contests.
  • Write news releases, social media posts, and assist with general marketing to increase public awareness and participation.
  • Assist with evaluation data entry as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff in planning and conducting programs, activities, and other special events.

Qualifications:

Possess good communication skills needed for individual communication with members, parents, leaders, and teachers. Possess organizational and record-keeping skills. Possess computer skills for creating documents and marketing pieces. Must be able to carry equipment, educational materials, and supplies, with or without accommodation.

Compensation

Approximately 20 hours/week, fluctuating depending on the time of the year.  The individual must be available for evening and weekend events to fulfill the position’s responsibilities. The starting hourly wage is $18.00.

 

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
