Job Title: Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL)

Reports to: Group Medical Manager Vaccines & General Medicines            

Based in: Saudi Arabia

Job Purpose:

The Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) is a field-based medical role - You will be responsible for conducting non-promotional medical engagements/activities that ensures the safe and effective use of GSK’s medicines. MSLs are expected to drive EE education journey using the AKU/ADoPT tool and via effective scientific interactions with external experts. Provide support to GSK clinical development & Key Evidence Generation programs. It is also expected that MSLs should partner with commercial to share & interpret medical insights and also provide scientific support for GSK internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide product and disease area information to external experts. This need is met primarily through direct scientific interactions with external experts and healthcare professionals (HCPs), including data presentations and responding to enquiries.

The MSL is the field-based scientific expert in the specific therapeutic area, clinical practice, and competitor landscape. Through his/her expertise and external interactions he/she will gather insights which will assist in the development and execution of innovative Medical Affairs strategies and plans that clearly support GSK development of medicines of value for patients.

The language and activities of the MSL must at all times reflect the medical nature of the role, be fair, balanced, non-promotional, scientific and evidence based. MSL must ensure full compliance with GSK Code, SOPs, and local laws & regulations for all country medical, in line with the principles of Scientific Engagement.

MSL to manage in-market activities in a Therapeutic Area in coordination with the Medical manager/Group Medical Manager in the following fields of responsibility:

Internal Client Group:

  • Work with colleagues in Medical team to identify the External Experts (generate external experts lists and maintain/update it), professional groups, decision makers and other key stakeholders for their assigned TA and / or geography.
  • Work with line manager & MedOps to secure timely KPIs Veeva entry in line with governing process/timelines.
  • Work with stakeholders to secure alignment with tasks related to Omnichannel, Medical information queries, PV and activities archiving process.
  • Ensure full alignment with Management Monitoring process.
  • Together with Medical colleagues, provide field medical insights/ input for TA strategy adjustment/ enhancement.
  • Deliver Scientific Engagement activities aligned documentation of all interactions with HCPs.
  • When required, liaise with medical Manager to prepare, and conduct Scientific training to the GSK sales representatives regarding GSK products and the conditions they treat utilizing approved Sales Training materials.

External Customer Base:

General

  • MSL upholds GSK’s commitment to the values of patient focus, transparency and integrity in all interaction and exchange of information between GSK and external communities.

KEEs Interactions

  • Conducts peer-to-peer, robust scientific dialogue with external experts (e.g., HCPs, Payer, Patient groups), to generate insights and secure advice that informs GSK’s development of vaccines for the ultimate benefit of patients.
  • Conducts individual (1:1 type) proactive / reactive discussions and meetings with GSK contracted clinical study investigators, steering committee members, advisory board members, consultants etc., on topics related to the work being conducted with GSK.
  • Communicate safety data to HCP (preferably in group setting) to supplement the Dear Healthcare Provider Letter (DHPL) process or in circumstances approved by the GSK Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or delegate.
  • Delivers scientific presentation to formulary committees as appropriate for Vaccines and LOC.
  • Facilitates, presents at, or otherwise participates in GSK-sponsored Advisory Boards where appropriate and in full alignment with Scientific Engagement principles and operating practices.
  • MSL may attend scientific meetings to gather information on recent data being presented on products and disease states of interest to GSK or to address HCP’s unsolicited questions regarding GSK products within the Medical Affairs/scientific/Medical Information booth.
  • The MSL brings value, protects GSK reputation, and builds trust by providing scientifically accurate, fair-balanced, on-label information, regarding the safety and efficacy of GSK products and off-label information in response to unsolicited questions only.

Medical Information:

  • Responds in a timely and accurate manner, to unsolicited requests for on or off - label information or safety concerns from HCPs in verbal, written or presentation forms in 1:1 or group setting, and to document these responses on relevant portals. Secure full alignment with GSK ways of working in relation to relevant systems, documentation & archiving of MI queries.

Clinical Operations:

  • MSL may support clinical development activities by participating in the site identification and assessment process, addressing subject retention and other scientific issues in partnership with study management and monitoring.
  • May also assist in the development of research project proposals and forward them to appropriate Medical Affairs staff for funding consideration.
  • Identify gaps that need Key Evidence Generation studies as effectiveness studies, health outcome studies and health economic studies.

Complexity:

  • The position requires a person with appropriate knowledge of Therapeutic Area. Some experience in the Saudi market.
  • Work in a multi-cultural and multi-departmental environment, multiple countries.
  • Medium complex job with reasonable accountability
  • Matrix teams of medical, regulatory, sales and marketing
  • Diverse operational functions, clinical trials, KEE relationships, training, Neuroscience-Urology building, therapeutic committees, and formulary introduction

Basic Qualifications: 
 

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Medical Degree or Pharmaceutical degree
  • At least 2-year experience as a Medical Rep. Or MSL
  • Vaccines experience is preferred.
  • Proven successful track record (For internal employees only)
  • Having a valid license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • Fluent in professional English language. Arabic language is an advantage.
  • Good Computer skills (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Good communication skills, with high ability to convey messages successfully to all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Postgraduate study in the preventive medicines is an advantage.
