Responsibilities:

  • Develop and industrialize AI‑ and data‑driven methods for automated and intelligent engineering workflows
  • Design and automate mechanical seal systems using parametric 3D CAD models and modular design concepts
  • Analyze existing seal series to identify opportunities for standardization, reuse, and automation
  • Develop prototypes and Proofs of Concept, including AI‑assisted CAD workflows, neural networks, optimization methods, and LLM‑based engineering assistants
  • Enable automated data exchange between engineering systems (e.g. CAD, PDM, ERP)
  • Conduct applied research: define hypotheses, train models, validate results, and transfer outcomes into scalable engineering solutions
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary and international teams and contribute to internal knowledge sharing

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience in applied research and/or industrial engineering with a strong focus on automation or digitalization
  • Strong expertise in mechanical design and 3D CAD, preferably Solid Edge or comparable systems
  • Solid programming skills in Python and experience developing data‑driven or AI‑based solutions
  • Practical experience in at least two of the following areas: neural networks, generative AI / LLMs and agentic systems, data analytics, MLOps, or platform development
  • Hands‑on experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, IT, and data science domains
  • Strong communication skills in English and German and willingness to collaborate in international teams
  • Willingness to travel during the first two years regularly to Freudenberg Technology Innovation (FTI) in Weinheim, Germany and a short-term assignment to USA (approximately 8 months)
