Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Patient Care Services, the RN is responsible for coordinating total nursing care for assigned patients and for utilizing the nursing process in planning and achieving goal-directed outcomes for patient care. Provide leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary team personnel. Maintain standards of professional nursing practice.

                         

Job Details

  • Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining current nursing knowledge and proficiency in nursing skills required to perform activities on assigned nursing unit.
  • Prioritize nursing care for assigned patients based on assessment data and identified needs using critical thinking skills.
  • Assesses urgent and emergent health conditions using both physiologically and technologically derived data. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients condition. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient condition.
  • Recognizes and reports abnormal clinical results and report to physician in a timely manner. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patient responses and conditions.
  • Delegates and supervises nursing care to associate staff members in accordance with the identified needs of the patients, employee capabilities and workload.
  • Administers medications in compliance with hospital policy; maintains current knowledge of medications.
  • Documents data related to patients care including medical history, assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records.
  • Manages patient pain relief by providing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, monitoring patient responses, and changing care plans accordingly.
  • Advocates for patient and family needs, and/or provide emotional support for patients and their families.
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Instructs patients, families and others on topics such as health education, disease prevention and care, and discharge instructions.
  • Prepares patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.
  • Assumes Charge Nurse duties as needed, including :
  • Leading/participating in interdisciplina ry team meetings, utilization review (preauthorization of patients and clinical reviews), performance improvement, serving as the lead resource person for the unit for communication with staff, physicians, and other departments.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Follows system/hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.


Certifications:

  • current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).


Complexity of Work:

  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
