About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive operational excellence and strategic execution across our AI/ML organization. This role will be the operational backbone of the team, ensuring seamless coordination across multiple managers and workstreams while establishing robust processes for planning, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery.

About the Team

With deep domain expertise, advanced technical capabilities, and a proven track record of successful collaborations, the AI Enablement & Machine Learning team at CNN is accelerating our digital transformation through strategic applications of ML and AI technologies. Our current products include popular, related and personalized content recommendations, contextual ad targeting, and site search-serving millions of CNN users via CNN web and mobile apps. This year we are partnering with teams across the company to democratize AI at CNN. Our "multiplier" approach allows our team to have outsized organizational impact by providing domain expertise, enabling teams, collaborating deeply, and building shared infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

Team Operations (30%)

Strategic Planning: Lead quarterly planning cycles and roadmapping across all three manager organizations (ML Platform, Engagement, Growth)

Cross-Team Coordination: Drive alignment and execution of cross-manager initiatives, identifying and removing process blockers

Operational Excellence: Own and continuously improve team processes, establishing operational rhythms and best practices

Accountability Management: Create and maintain accountability matrices, tracking deliverables and outcomes across all workstreams

Dependency Management: Proactively identify, track, and resolve dependencies between teams and external partners

Stakeholder Relations (30%)

Engagement Framework: Design and implement structured stakeholder engagement processes and meeting cadences

Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and leadership

Communication Strategy: Develop and execute communication plans that effectively showcase team achievements, capabilities, and business impact

Stakeholder Coordination: Facilitate productive interactions between technical teams and business stakeholders in the absence of centralized organizational processes

Experimentation (30%)

Test Definition & Coordination: Partner with product experimentation organization to define A/B tests and ensure proper setup

Process Automation: Evolve and automate experimentation processes to eliminate data bottlenecks through clear signoff, accountability, and escalation procedures

Multi-Team Alignment: Coordinate all teams and individuals involved in each experiment to ensure smooth execution

Status Reporting: Provide clear, regular reporting on experiment status, blockers, and progress against established plans

Results Communication: Facilitate communication of experiment results and drive decision-making processes for production promotion

AI Enablement (10%)

Usage Analytics: Create and maintain comprehensive reporting on AI productivity tool adoption (GitHub Copilot, etc.)

Program Coordination: Manage administrative aspects of AI enablement initiatives and coordinate outreach activities

Proof of Concept Development: Lead development of POCs to demonstrate AI tool value and drive adoption

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of technical program management experience in engineering organizations
  • Proven track record of driving operational improvements and establishing scalable processes
  • Experience managing complex, multi-team initiatives with competing priorities
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience with experimentation frameworks and data-driven decision making
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in matrix organizations with distributed ownership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ML/AI or data-intensive technical environments
  • Background in scaling team operations during periods of rapid growth
  • Experience with quarterly planning and OKR/goal-setting frameworks
  • Track record of building measurement and accountability systems
  • Previous experience working with product and engineering leadership
