This role will play a pivotal part in supporting various functions at The Oncenter Convention Center, Arena, and Theaters, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of unforgettable live events. THE ROLE

The Security Manager at The Oncenter / Empower FCU Amphitheater is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of security at our downtown venues, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety and security of all guests, events, employees, and the venue itself. This position requires a dedicated individual with strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize security needs effectively. This is an onsite position that requires in-person collaboration with multiple departments and coverage of events from start to finish.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Oversee Security team members, training programs, and payroll.

  • Interview and hire all staff members within the department.

  • Develop policy guidelines and applicable training.

  • Monitor security systems, including access control, surveillance cameras, and alarms, and promptly respond to any identified issues or alarms.

  • Investigate and report on safety and security incidents, including accidents, theft, vandalism, or unauthorized access, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Ensure all staff are working safely, notifying Directors of any accidents/incidents. Investigates and fills out forms and reports if applicable.

  • Review the work performance of security team members and recommend disciplinary actions.

  • Maintain plans for emergency preparedness and run drills.

  • Assure all Security Staff licenses are current and update licensing requirements with Department of State.

  • Work with Human Resources Manager to conduct investigations relevant to team member complaints.

  • Operate as Head of the Building Safety Committee. Maintain safety and security training documentation in Altum according to the ASM review schedule.

  • Collaborate with department managers to develop and deliver safety and security training programs for employees, including emergency response procedures. Maintain SEMP plans for downtown venues and update requirements.

  • Review the work performance of security team members.

  • Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and technological advancements in safety and security to continuously improve protocols and procedures.

  • Cross-train and help support security efforts on the events side.

  • Perform other related duties as directed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • New York State Security Guard License; and

  • Associate’s degree; or

  • Two years security experience in the event/operations industry; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS YOU’LL NEED

  • Ability to work both in a team and independently.

  • Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to effectively communicate safety security information to diverse audiences.

  • Strong knowledge of security regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address potential risks and vulnerabilities.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change within the organization.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, business partners, and the public.

  • Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.
