JOB SUMMARY

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Marymount University invites applications for a full-time faculty position as a tenure earning assistant/associate professor beginning in 2026. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience working in a DPT program. The search committee prefers candidates with teaching and research experience, respect for the Catholic intellectual tradition, and an interest in inquiry-based teaching. Faculty are expected to teach high-quality student-centric graduate courses in face-to-face settings. Applicants must be physical therapists who are licensed or license-eligible in Virginia and have an advanced academic degree (e.g. DPT, PhD, EdD, or DSc). Applications should include a cover letter, cv, evidence of excellence in teaching, a statement on diversity, and at least three professional references where prompted.

The DPT Program is located at Marymount University’s 4040 Center in the heart of one of Arlington, Virginia. Marymount University is centrally located near the nation’s capital and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) headquarters. The DPT program is part of the Marymount University School of Health Sciences., housed in the College of Health and Education.  The DPT program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach in areas of expertise in DPT program

  • Maintain a successful record of quality, peer reviewed scholarship;

  • Participates in service to the program, college, and university including:

    • Admissions and recruitment events for the program and school;

    • Participate in the university community, including attending all required meetings such as Faculty Council, college meetings, and convocation;

    • Actively engage in committees and task forces, as requested.

    • Actively be involved in the additional School activities, including School curriculum revisions, out-of-classroom speaker presentations, interacting with local clinics, and working with the local community on service projects

  • Academic advising and holding office hours at times that provide appropriate access to students

  • Support and integrate the mission and core values of Marymount University and Academic Affairs, including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS

  • Assume professional responsibilities as requested by the Dean of the College and/or School Director

  • Engage in ongoing professional development that will include scholarship activities such as research, presentations, and participating with professional organizations

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education                              

Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent academic doctoral degree, or DPT plus specialist certification) and demonstrated commitment to rigorous, peer-reviewed scholarship.

Experience 

  • 5 years clinical practice

  • 2 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapy education program

Licenses or Certifications

Licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in Virginia

Special Knowledge

  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association

  • Strong research agenda

  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and entry-level DPT students

  • The candidate should be comfortable in a highly interactive learning environment that utilizes a modified problem-based curriculum design
