Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer committed to complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
This job specification should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position. This is not to be considered a complete list of job duties, which appear in the job description for this position, and which may be amended from time to time at the discretion of Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. Incumbents will follow any other instructions and perform any other related duties as may be required by their supervisor.
Please note, this job description is not a contract of employment and may be modified to meet evolving business needs. Employment at Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. is at-will, meaning that either the employee or the company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice.
SM positions are permanent. Incumbents are hired onto them or terminated from them, but the positions remain in the org chart regardless of how many incumbents come and go. DMs can’t open SM positions. Only HRMs can open SM positions, but we shouldn’t really need to because, as mentioned, SM positions are permanent. HRMs creating positions should be a relatively rare exception. You would do so if you opened an org chart for a given store and saw that for some reason, there was no SM position already there.
The only positions DMs can open are SMT positions. When an incumbent vacates an SM position, DMs are often tempted to open a req on that position. They should NOT do that. Instead, they should create an SMT position and open a req on that position. TA will then take it from there and manage the applicants (whether internal or external) through the req. An incumbent will ALWAYS be hired or promoted through the req process onto an SMT position, and not the SM position (unless it’s an SM transfer or a DM demoting to an SM position).
Once the candidate graduates from SMT, it’s the DM’s job to “Job change” the SMT into the permanent SM position. Doing this will vacate the SMT position, which the DM should close out after the incumbent is job changed into the permanent SM position, which will change their title from SMT to
