Job Description

What is the opportunity?  

As Manager, Corporate Investigation Services (CIS), you will report directly and support the Associate Director, Asset Recovery & Litigation. The position requires the ability to incorporate financial crime procedures within the framework of a Financial Institution. This task involves processing large amounts of information, the ability to analyze and effectively communicate information in a clear and concise manner. Self-discipline, experienced judgement, attention to detail and the ability to work with volumes and time pressures are essential. As Manager, you are required to make sound decisions within tight time frames.

What will you do? 

  • Lead recovery efforts for losses due to fraud and other misconduct against RBC. Ensuring always completion with accurate documentation and timeliness with a particular focus on electronic management.
  • Fulfillment of assigned files which include the reviewing of documents, performing analytics on account transactions with a focus on asset recovery, loss prevention and intelligence. Cases are in the areas of credit fraud, deposit fraud, and other areas.
  • Manages high risk cases involving fraud against clients for return of financial losses.
  • Retaining external counsel for the preparation of civil litigation filings, including assembling necessary production materials.
  • Completes and ensures all litigation cases comply with the CIS/FC Litigation and Prosecution Policy and all other judicial, legislative, and regulatory constraints.
  • Accountable to maintain up-to-date information for losses and recoveries and accountable for quarterly reporting.
  • Developing and implementing of asset recovery strategies.
  • Negotiate terms of settlement relating to the recovery of amounts lost due to fraud, misconduct, or operational error.
  • Develop and maintain a network of internal partners, external peers (in the industry).

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with banking. Experience with Civil Litigation and Knowledge in Law.
  • Knowledge of the Bills of Exchange Act and Canadian Payments Association (CPA) Rules
  • Strong and proven verbal and written communication skills, with relationship building acumen
  • Effective and strong people management skills
  • Excellent prioritization, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Analytical mindset
  • Intermediate level or higher knowledge and use of MS Excel
  • Experience gathering and preserving evidence for the purpose of presenting the evidence before the courts

Nice-to-have 

  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Investigative and analytic experience
  • Tracing experience
  • French is considered an asset
  • Basic Business Law courses
