The Role: Commercial Manager Agriculture

The Team:

The Commercial Manager (CM) is responsible for the achievement of an account's revenue and retention performance goals – and coordinating the associated strategies that align the broader account team towards the achievement of those goals.

The Impact:

With comprehensive knowledge of the S&P Global Commodity Insights offering and a detailed understanding of the client’s strategic growth objectives, initiatives and risks, the CM uses consultative selling to optimize the fit-for-purpose solution and customer experience, thereby maximizing account value. The CM is responsible for confirming the client’s budget approval and decision-making processes, negotiating the contractual terms and pricing, and utilizing information from the broader account team to structure a value-added long-term commercial agreement.

What’s in it for you:

The accounts within a CM’s portfolio may be global or regional and vary in size and complexity. As the ‘conductor of the orchestra’, the CM coordinates the account team strategy, including key collaborators, such as Sales Specialists, Client Development Managers and Client Services Managers, throughout the customer lifecycle. The CM will leverage the account team’s expertise and insights to develop and execute a holistic account strategy that achieves revenue performance targets while concurrently increasing customer sentiment and realized value of S&P Global Commodity Insights’ services. To support this account strategy, the CM will lead internal account meetings to ensure all internal account stakeholders are up to date on customer interactions, whitespace opportunities and priorities aligned with the account strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and communicate an evolving revenue strategy

    • Identify opportunities and risks

    • Articulate an integrated commercial value story

    • Maintain an up-to-date account plan that demonstrates a clear understanding of the customer’s business drivers, organizational structure, and operations as they relate to S&P Global Commodity Insights’ services

  • Strategically position S&P Global Commodity Insights to expand our footprint within a customer’s workflow

  • Engage in diagnostic conversations to understand current and future needs of customers

What We’re Looking For:.

  • 7+ years of relevant selling (quota driven) experience with Agricultural products and services.  

  • Engage in diagnostic conversations to discover opportunities for selling across all of S&P Global Commodity Insights’ products and solution offerings.

  • Build relationships with a variety of personas within the customers’ organization.

  • Triage customer inquiries with a base-level knowledge of S&P Global Commodity Insights’ products and solution offerings, and then route inquiries / opportunities to the appropriate person within S&P Global.

  • Engage with customers to understand satisfaction, growth potential, future business plans and current challenges (i.e. continuously validate the value hypotheses)

  • Deliverables:

Assess whitespace opportunities

Understand customer peer groups and competitors’ alternatives

Identify implementation gaps within a customer’s business, and address accordingly, leveraging amongst others Client Services Managers and Sales Specialists

  • Lead internal account meetings and drive accountability between account team members

  • Spearhead the drive toward deeper account penetration into a customer’s organization

  • Define specific goals for accounts based on each account’s unique situation

Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for the S&P Global Sales Incentive Plan.
