Job Summary:
The Patient Account Representative is responsible for obtaining and entering pertinent information required for registration; verifies patient insurance and financial responsibility. The Patient Account Representative communicates benefits and financial responsibility to patients. The Patient Account Representative maintains current knowledge of insurance.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
__Clerical and Clinical Responsibilities__
a. Maintain several Login IDs & expertise in various insurance pre-certification and authorization processes.
b. verification of benefits and authorizations with multiple insurance companies
c. Working knowledge of 2 different systems: Epic and WebPT
d. Perform estimation of patient payments
e. Speak with patients regarding benefits and financial responsibility; answer questions
f. Create financial responsibility forms and accurate documentation into computer
g. Upload all verification of benefits into 2 systems
h. Timely communication with all Rehab clinics regarding patients
__Customer Focus and Communication__
a. Provides appropriate telephone etiquette and scripting.
b. Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs
c. Meets service recovery and customer service guidelines
d. Keep current & Convey knowledge of various insurance plans to customers as needed.
e. Works well with Staff and understands appropriate department process.
f. Identify & Request additional info as needed to complete authorization requests
__Mentoring, Training and Education__
a. Keep current knowledge of insurance companies process.
b. Assist Supervisor with training of new employees
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma General or GED General
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Worked in healthcare setting performing prior authorizations. Required
Minimum 2 years experience in insurance / precertification Preferred
Minimum 1 year of one year experience Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Good communication skills and organizational skills.
Computer skills including Excel;
Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT codes, HCPCS & ICD-9/ICD-10 codes.
Detail understanding and interpretation of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
