About this unit

The Medical Critical Care (MCC) is a 14-bed unit that cares for a wide variety of critically ill patients. The next year for MCC is an exciting time as the unit will be going through a major expansion. The growth of West Michigan has resulted in the increased need for hospitals beds and specifically intensive care beds. A new 24-bed critical care unit is currently being built within the existing Meijer Heart Center. The eighth floor of the Meijer Heart Center once housed Ambulatory offices and conference rooms. Accepting a position with the MCC offers a unique experience of moving to a brand-new critical care unit.

Scope of work

Assumes 24-hour accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing services/ unit of the hospital. Develops policies, procedures, and processes in coordination with other leaders to ensure the highest quality services are always provided to all customers. Assures presence of a supportive and healthy work environment that promotes retention and embraces diversity. Key responsibilities include unit based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development, performance improvement, supports a culture of safety and maintenance of interprofessional collaborative relationships.

Nurse Managers in inpatient and outpatient units are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire in to the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) Preferred.
  • 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required.
  • 1 year of relevant supervisory experience Required.
  • Completion of a Nurse Executive Council approved leadership development educational program within 1 year of position entry Required.
  • MI RN License Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
  • AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required.
