Your role in our future

As Sensory Manager you will partner with commercial and application teams to plan and execute sensory research, including drafting detailed test protocols, screening qualified panels, designing and analysing results with appropriate statistical methods, to provide your recommendations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Partner with project teams to plan and execute high quality, hands-on, sensory research, including drafting detailed test protocol, screening qualified panel, designing and analyzing results with appropriate statistical method, and providing actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrate scientific and technical leadership in sensory research. In particular:
    • Assess gaps in current practice and implement approaches to improve efficiency, clarity, accuracy, and reproducibility of sensory study and data analysis.
    • Identify insights and trends from metadata analysis, build predictive model, and create interactive toolkit
    • Review scientific literatures and keep up with the new trend, technology, regulation, and methodology in sensory evaluation
    • Train and develop more junior colleagues
  • Interface broadly with key internal stakeholders and external customers to provide clear and timely communication and interpretation of research findings.
  • Protect intellectual properties by following policies and best practices in knowledge management, IP execution, and information sharing
  • Promote innovative expertise of Tate & Lyle by presenting research findings in Science and Education Outreach events and scientific conferences

What we’re looking for

  • Food industry experience working in sensory evaluation or in product development where consumer-testing is involved (minimum 3 years)
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and design of sensory tests and data analysis methods, including experience with sensory testing software - e.g. EyeQuestion, Compusense, SIMS, etc.
  • Knowledge of impact of storage and shelf on sensory attributes and ability to assess these impacts
  • Direct experience with statistical analysis software - SAS, JMP, XLSTAT preferred
  • Current industry knowledge and understanding of trends in food and beverage industry
  • A customer focused and solution-oriented approach
  • Pragmatic, analytical approach, able to adapt to changing business requirements
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, experienced with internal and external audiences
  • Experience of working with strict health and safety protocols in a laboratory environment is essential
  • A Masters or PhD in Sensory ideally, or Food Science/technology/Engineering, Biostatistics and related subjects
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken, and one other European language is essential
