Job Description:

General Description:

The Manager of Respiratory Care Services is responsible for the development, implementation, and provision of diagnostic and therapeutic patient care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the Administration and Medical staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the administration and management of departmental resources for the maximum benefit to the hospital. 
  • Performs clinical duties and operates equipment according to departmental policy and with an appropriate physician’s order. 
  • As needed, provides appropriate care in all areas served by the department including assessment, treatment and monitoring of patients. 
  • Performs invasive and non-invasive testing.
  • Utilizes a collaborative interdisciplinary process to provide appropriate patient/family education. 
  • Ensures that appropriate care is delivered in all care areas. 
  • Ensures that response and performance is appropriate in emergency situations. 
  • Ensures the security of medications and the life safety standards are maintained when stocking medications. 
  • Provides advanced clinical expertise and education to departmental staff members.
  • Supervises staff and is responsible for hiring, counseling and evaluating staff.
  • Assists in coordinating the Respiratory Therapy School programs contracted with OUMC.  

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:.  Graduate of Respiratory Care program accredited by the Committee on Respiratory Care (CoARC) required.

Experience: 3 or more years of experience in Respiratory Care, including at least 1 year experience in Respiratory Care in a lead, senior, or project management role.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS (American Heart Association) required if working in the Pediatric ICU. PALS (American Heart Association) required if working in the Pediatric ICU. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required if working in the Neonatal ICU.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, physicians and department/hospital staff members. 
  • Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff. 
  • Demonstrated business acumen. Demonstrated business understanding and ability to balance people/ organizational decisions with business considerations. Experience using metrics to drive decisions and working with external vendors.
  • Must be a strategic thinker, self-motivated and have excellent problem solving and project management skills.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools.
