Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is the world leader in serving science, with annual revenue of approximately $40 billion. Our Mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. For more information, please visit www.thermofisher.com.

Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg, a leading pan-European private equity firm with deep expertise in healthcare, focused on a select set of subsectors, including pharmaceutical services and technology, medtech and related services, life science tools and diagnostics.

This decision follows a thoughtful evaluation as part of Thermo Fisher’s ongoing business strategy to actively manage and strengthen our portfolio.

We expect the transaction will be completed in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals. Until the transaction is complete, Thermo Fisher will continue to operate the business.

If you join the microbiology business prior to the close of the transaction, your employment is expected to transition to Astorg.

How will you make an impact?

We are now looking for a Senior Software Engineer / Architect to join us.

One of our team members is retiring and thus we are looking for a new person to join us in this role on site in Vantaa.

Joining an international team of professionals, you will play a key role in designing, modernizing, and delivering software solutions for microbiology products. Our software is part of regulated in vitro diagnostic laboratory solutions, where quality, reliability, usability, and compliance are essential.

In this role, you will combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership. We mainly develop Windows desktop software today, but we are looking for someone with a broad architectural mindset and experience from modern software systems. You will help guide technical direction, mentor the team, and support the evolution of our software towards maintainable, modern, and scalable solutions.

What will you do?

  • Design and develop software solutions: Build high-quality software for microbiology products and help modernize existing software in a controlled and sustainable way.
  • Guide technical direction and system design: Shape architectural decisions and technical approaches for new and existing solutions. Communicate technical concepts, trade-offs, risks, and recommendations clearly to product, project, quality, regulatory, and other stakeholders. Apply a system-level mindset that considers the full customer solution, not only the software.
  • Work in a regulated product environment: Develop software for IVDR laboratory products, considering quality, traceability, verification, validation, risk management, cybersecurity, and documentation needs.
  • Mentor the team and improve engineering practices: Support other developers through technical guidance, design reviews, code reviews, coaching, and hands-on problem solving. Help improve automated testing, CI/CD, code quality, maintainability, and effective use of modern tools, including AI-based development tooling.

What will you need?

  • Senior software engineering experience: Several years of experience designing and developing complex software products, preferably in a Senior Engineer, Lead Developer, or Software Architect role.
  • Strong software architecture and development background: Experience in desktop application development, preferably on Windows, using technologies such as C#/.NET, Java, or similar. Ability to design maintainable software and guide technical decisions across components and system boundaries.
  • Experience from regulated and quality-driven environments: Experience developing software in regulated, safety-critical, healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory, or other quality-driven environments.
  • Modern engineering mindset: Good understanding of agile development, automated testing, source control, CI/CD, secure development, collaborative workflows, and AI-based development tooling.
  • Communication and mentoring skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor others, explain technical topics clearly, and influence decisions across teams.
  • Language and education: Proficient communication skills in English. Finnish is considered advantageous. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Seen as a benefit:

  • Experience with clinical microbiology, diagnostics, healthcare software, laboratory workflows, scientific instruments, or IVDR medical device software.
  • Experience designing web applications, mobile architectures, cloud services, integrations, or distributed architectures.
  • Experience with cybersecurity, test automation, DevOps, or machine learning solutions.

In addition to the exciting and versatile job, we offer:

  • Compensation on various methods from annual bonus scheme to colleague recognition program
  • Variety of occupational health care services and insurance
  • Possibility to work remote with agile and mobile working methods
  • Epassi leisure benefit
  • Various hobby clubs with company sponsorship such as golf club, boating club, sport club etc.
  • Possibility to take part in our charity work
  • Career development and progression possibilities offered by our global network
  • Our comprehensive training platform and programs.
