Summary:

The Senior IT Project Manager (PM), Information Technology, reports directly to the Director, IT Business Operations. The Senior PM is an integral role on the IT team, making sure that the planning and execution of our initiatives accurately captures our organizational values and involves/invests key stakeholders in the success of those initiatives. The IT team regularly partners with teams across the organization to support the achievement of team-specific and organization-wide goals; similarly, the Senior PM will regularly listen to and learn from teams’ respective operations and goals to develop robust project plans that are geared toward success for IT projects.  

The Senior PM provides strategic direction, coordination and tracking of organization priority projects, large-scale projects. The Senior PM will also lead and support overall efforts to streamline and refine IT best practices and processes.

The Senior PM will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to create and support simple, scalable, compliant, and more automated ASPCA mission-critical information and systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and team player, and have a desire to support the ASPCA in achieving our mission of ending cruelty to animals.

In this position, you will never be bored! The ASPCA supports a broad portfolio of technologies to support a highly mobile and diverse staff. Maintaining a presence in multiple geographic locations, the team provides support (hands-on and remote) to over a dozen facilities and field operations, and over a thousand individual staff members. Your work will be integral to the organization as you work cross-functionally to ensure ASPCA staff, partners and communities have the tools needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare.

This remote-based position (which requires travel, as described below) is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Contribute to the ASPCA’s Strategic Initiatives through Project Management (90%):

  • Manage the execution of key organizational technology priority projects and initiatives
  • Lead all project management activities for the initiative that effectively and efficiently tracks multiple streams of work to ensure the work moves forward in a timely fashion 
  • Proactively manage scope, actions, issues, and risks to ensure project success; follow change control procedures effectively
  • Provide meeting planning and facilitation, including project team meetings, document reviews, and client-driven meetings
  • Develop and cultivate strong relationships with leaders to encourage and facilitate timely decision-making 
  • Field questions from department heads and other staff members about timing of deliverables
  • Draft initiative-specific updates for internal communications, including Workplace and organizational newsletters 
  • Schedule key meetings and capture key themes in written form as needed 
  • Partner with key internal IT team partners (e.g., Finance, Legal, Internal Communications) to ensure those stakeholders are informed of project progress, and to learn from those teams of potential changes/updates to reporting requirements that may impact project timelines 
  • Engage required stakeholders and facilitate activities to ensure successful testing, training, change management and post-production support

Provide Project Management Support and Recommendations for Other Key IT Initiatives (10%)* 

  • Support the overall strategic vision for the IT team and manage project execution against organizational key results and compliance requirements, in partnership with the Director, IT Business Operations  
  • Create and maintain a tracking system/calendar for the IT team project inventory to ensure the timely completion of key IT team projects
  • Serve as project manager for the project inventory, establishing a regular review cadence with the IT leadership team and reporting on key risks and overdue projects
  • Support other IT team projects to ensure alignment with reporting requirements and organizational core values  
  • Partner within the IT team to improve processes and reporting, suggesting revisions to streamline and implement changes and challenge existing processes with innovation in mind 
  • Build a strong understanding of all ASPCA operations to influence organizational IT priorities and align project support against those priorities

Qualifications:

  • Excellent and seasoned project-management skills, specifically in managing multiple large-scale information technology projects, navigating competing priorities, and adapting quickly to changing circumstances  
  • Proven ability to build and maintain project-tracking systems 
  • Highly motivated self-starter who can provide strategic project leadership and lead projects with limited guidance 
  • Understands organizational systems and structures, teamwork, and project management 
  • Confidence and composure required to effectively communicate at all levels, including executive level management 
  • Track record of managing/navigating wide-ranging organizations and processes with strong work ethics 
  • Proven problem-solver and generator of new ideas with strong sense of key business issues and opportunities  
  • Strong sense of integrity and discretion; ability to handle sensitive information and issues while maintaining complete confidentiality 
  • Regular meeting-facilitation experience 
  • Maintains a positive, customer-focused attitude!
  • Love of animals and an interest in the organization’s mission of animal welfare is a plus!

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to ASPCA locations may be required; estimated not to exceed 15% annually

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School degree or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • PMP or similar certification required Minimum of 10 years of project management experience, with a minimum of 7 years leading large-scale IT projects (building tracking systems, implementation of processes and deliverables) in a large business or non-profit  
  • Proficiency in project management experience leading data warehouse migration/data mapping/big data related projects
  • Experience overseeing high-visibility/high-budget project portfolios
  • Experience with Salesforce and relational databases required
  • Experience leading custom development projects with internal and external development resources
  • Demonstrated experience with agile methodology, including release and sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required; advanced project management platform skills preferred 
  • Experience working in organizations with at least 500 employees preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

The applicable target hiring range for this remote role is based on where the employee works, which for remote roles is the employee’s primary location of residence, and its respective cost of labor. We have organized the U.S. varying costs of labor index into three geographic zones. As a point of reference, below, we have included our ASPCA locations by geographic zone to illustrate what the hiring range would be in each of the following areas. 

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.  

  • Zone 1 (For example, Asheville, NC; Champaign, IL; Columbus, OH; Gainesville, FL; Miami, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Overland, KS; Union, MO; Weaverville, NC): $113,000 - $121,000 annually
  • Zone 2 (For example, Washington D.C.; Los Angeles, CA): $125,000 - $133,000 annually
  • Zone 3 (For example, New York, NY): $137,000 - $145,000 annually
