Job Description:

The College of Health Solutions (CHS) is seeking an experienced and motivated Instructional Designer to join its Instructional Support team. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about designing engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning experiences in collaboration with faculty and subject matter experts.

The Instructional Designer supports the design and development of high-quality in-person, online, and hybrid courses using sound instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and appropriate educational technologies.

Although this position is designated as remote, applicants must be local to the Phoenix metropolitan area, as periodic on-site meetings and campus engagements may be required at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop engaging, instructionally sound course materials for online, hybrid, immersive, and in-person modalities.

  • Serve as the CHS instructional design liaison for meetings, conferences, and instructional initiatives requiring design support.

  • Apply backward design methodologies in the development of new and revised courses.

  • Evaluate course structure, learning activities, and assessments and provide focused improvement recommendations aligned with institutional standards.

  • Mentor faculty in best practices related to:

    • Course design

    • Curriculum alignment

    • Assessment strategies

    • Active learning methodologies

  • Collaborate with instructional designers, academic technologists, project managers, and multimedia professionals to improve efficiency and instructional quality.

  • Develop instructional documentation, job aids, multimedia resources, websites, and online tutorials.

  • Provide consultative support to faculty regarding effective use of instructional technologies including Canvas LMS, media tools, and approved third-party applications.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation across multiple concurrent initiatives.

  • Research emerging educational technologies and contribute findings through team discussions, presentations, and professional development activities.

  • Utilize desktop authoring tools, document creation software, and presentation applications to develop customized instructional solutions.

  • Collaborate with multimedia teams on enhanced graphics, instructional video, and interactive learning assets.

  • Provide basic troubleshooting and technical support related to instructional technologies.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, or a closely related field.

  • Teaching experience in a collegiate or adult learning environment.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience using Articulate Storyline for interactive learning development.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, including applications such as Photoshop.

  • Experience with Articulate Rise 360 and/or Adobe Captivate.

  • Demonstrated experience consulting directly with faculty.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System.

  • Experience designing and delivering faculty training workshops.

  • Experience developing instructional materials including job aids, tutorials, and multimedia resources.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.

Working Environment:

  • This position is designated as remote and may be performed from a home office within Arizona.

  • Employees are expected to have a suitable remote work environment with stable internet connectivity.

  • Standard work hours follow [Mountain/Pacific/etc.] Time; however, flexibility may be required based on operational needs.

  • Occasional travel for meetings, training, or events may be required.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer.

  • Works from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments.

Our programs are offered at ASU's Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic's campus in north Phoenix.
