Northrop Grumman is looking for a Machinist Level 2 to support our Machine Shop department. As a member of the Machine Shop department you’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside fellow machinists, design engineers, and quality inspectors. This position will serve on-site at the machine shop in Goleta, CA.
Responsibilities:
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as manual lathes, manual mills, CNC mills and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions without supervision.
Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of problems and issues regarding machining.
Work closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to resolve issues, refine designs for manufacturability, and meet production deadlines.
Responsible for quality of the product by performing both in-process and final part inspections using a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)
Perform routine machine maintenance to avoid downtime and ensure optimal performance.
Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace to meet aerospace cleanliness and safety standards.
Assuring tooling and materials readiness
Provide training and guidance to others in all aspects of Mill/Lathe equipment setup, operations, and maintenance
Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization

Basic Qualifications for Machinist Level 2:
High School diploma or equivalent and 2+ years machining experience in an aerospace environment.
Familiarity with CNC Mills and machine programming software (example Mastercam, CAMworks, etc.)
Must have experience running manual machines and performing set-ups.
Ability to read (English) and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards to ensure dimensional accuracy.
Experience in following written set-up instructions and /or performing unique set-ups
Experience fabricating component parts where set-ups are non-routine and tolerances are difficult to acquire and maintain
Able to work in a standing position for extended time periods
Experience in shop math calculations relative to tolerances, dimensions, tooling, and feeds and speeds
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Able to lift or move a minimum of 35 -50 lbs. for up to 12 hours per day; pushing or pulling 35 -50+ lbs. occasionally throughout the workday
