Position:  Extrusion Team Leader

Department:  Production (VF/Extrusion)

Reports To:  Group Leader

Overview

The Extrusion Team Leader plays a critical role in supporting daily extrusion operations and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement on the production floor.  Acting as a working leader, this role is responsible for coordinating extrusion line activities, ensuring sheet quality and throughput targets are met, and providing day-to-day guidance to extrusion operators and production members.

The Extrusion Team Leader models Delta Faucet Company’s core values by setting expectations, communicating clearly and maintaining focus on Safety, Quality, Deliver, and Cost (SQDC) metrics.  This position requires a hands-on, process-focused leader who can sustain equipment performance, material flow, and team capability within the extrusion area.

Key Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)

Leadership & Communication

  • Lead by example in safety, quality, attendance, and work ethic
  • Communicate daily production goals, material changes, and line priorities
  • Provide timely and accurate shift reporting on SQDC performance, issues, and actions
  • Coordinate activities between extrusion operators, production members, maintenance, and quality
  • Foster collaboration across shifts to ensure stable extrusion processes
  • Support conflict resolution and promote a positive work environment

Safety & Compliance

  • Monitor extrusion lines and material handling areas for safe operation and PPE compliance
  • Ensure adherence to lockout/tagout and resin transfer safety procedures
  • Conduct safety checks and address or escalate hazards
  • Reinforce safe forklift and material handling practices within the extrusion area

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure extrusion lines meet daily throughput, uptime, and changeover targets
  • Coordinate startup, shutdown, and changeover readiness (materials, tooling, parameters)
  • Monitor resin supply (silo levels and transfers) and coordinate maintenance/PM activities to sustain uninterrupted line operation
  • Respond to and escalate production disruptions such as downtime, staffing gaps, equipment, or material issues
  • Maintain readiness of downstream processes including sheet handling and regrind flow
  • Adjust labor assignments to balance line operation, material handling, and support activities

Quality & Process Control

  • Verify sheet quality standards including thickness, appearance, and dimensional requirements
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Work, process parameters, and equipment condition
  • Support containment and escalation when out-of-spec material or defects occur
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring extrusion issues

Continuous Improvement

  • Encourage team member involvement in extrusion process improvements
  • Support Kaizen events and process optimization initiatives
  • Identify downtime drivers, scrap sources, and material flow inefficiencies
  • Sustain 5S standards in extrusion, shredder, and sheet handling area

Coaching & Development

  • Train and cross-train extrusion operators and production members
  • Reinforce proper machine operation, inspection, and material handling practices
  • Provide performance feedback and recommend corrective actions when needed
  • Support team engagement and recognition efforts

Daily Management & Leader Standard Work

  • Lead and actively participate in daily Tier 1 meetings for extrusion
  • Lead or participate in pre-shift GEMBA walks and shift handoff discussions
  • Provide shift-level extrusion performance updates for Tier 2 discussions
  • Track and communicate SQDC metrics and corrective actions
  • Execute and sustain daily Leader Standard Work (LSW) tasks including visual checks, standard audits, and escalation protocols

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in extrusion manufacturing preferred
  • Prior leadership or lead-person experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical/process aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, organization, and accountability
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and production tracking systems

Must be able to:

  • Lift, bend and reach, including below waist level and above shoulder level
  • Lift, push and pull weights of up to 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Work around hot surfaces, moving equipment, forklifts, and high-noise environments
  • Work daily overtime and weekend support as dictated by production schedule.
