About the F5 Platform Security Team

The Platform Security team is responsible for the ensuring the products F5 builds are a secure as we can make them. We provide services and support to F5 development teams in all phases of the Secure Development Lifecycle – from design time security and threat analysis, to best development practices training, to security testing and certifications, to vulnerability response and management.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the design, development and implementation of complete software components related to the security certifications features of the BIG-IP. Designs, develops and maintains high-quality code for complex security certification components. Requires little direct management to complete the majority of development tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

  • You will collaborate with architects and business leaders to understand the requirements for providing FIPS-ready cryptography-based security services for F5's platform, design solutions, and implement them

  • You will perform necessary compliance tasks – including building and executing the test suites – required for making systems and libraries ready for FIPS

  • You will vet various open source and closed source technologies, components, libraries, tools etc. and help build a highly available, highly scalable and easily manageable system

  • Demonstrate technical leadership in multiple security domain, providing mentorship to other team members

  • Demonstrate leadership by taking responsibility and ownership of software components and deliver a complete product satisfying functional, scale, performance and manageability requirements

  • Hands-on coding in multiple languages while considering performance, scalability, maintainability, and flexibility

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 6+ years product development experience in embedded operating systems

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 6+ years of software engineering and development experience

  • Hands on experience with multiple computer programming languages such as Golang (must), C++, Python, Java

  • Hands-on experience with FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria

  • Ability to implement all phases of a development cycle for a software product from understanding requirements, going through design, development and deploy phases

  • Working knowledge of Virtualization technologies like KVM, Docker etc.

  • Working knowledge of Cloud orchestration systems such as Kubernetes, Openstack etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytic / trouble-shooting and debugging skills

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communications

  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 5 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
