The Executive Director Investment Operations, Performance Measurement and Risk Analysis is responsible for the development, quality, reliability, and delivery of processes and procedures that support the investment team and comprise the scalable operations platform of the Investment Office. This leader manages multiple investment portfolios for the organization, exceeding $15 billion in total assets. The success of these efforts is critical to the organization’s ability to execute its mission. 

   

This leader reports to the Chief Investment Officer and has regular intersections with the Chief Financial Officer, CEO and other members of the executive team and multiple committees of the Board of Directors. The Chief Investment Officer relies upon this leader to ensure assets are safeguarded, no unintended risks are taken, and that Cleveland Clinic’s reputation is never damaged by financial mistakes or fraud. 

  

A caregiver in this role must be located in the Cleveland or Florida region and can work in a hybrid schedule, with 1-2 days per week work-from-home. This position requires flexibility to work some non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and some domestic/international travel. 

  

A caregiver who excels in this role, will: 

  • Develop and advise Chief Investment Officer and Investment Committee on best practices for governance and investment operations for inclusion in the Investment Policy Statement. 

  • Manage business areas to meet annual budget, as well as business and strategic goals, including: Operations – third-party vendor management including databases and software platforms, transaction management of direct holdings and co-mingled funds, operational due diligence on investment managers and vendors, CCIO facilities management, Financial Management performance reporting, maintaining books/records for multiple portfolios, tax and audit compliance, and accounting; Risk Management – deployment of a risk system with multiple vendors and interfaces with investment managers, risk analysis and reporting, scenario testing and Monte Carlo simulation. 

  • Present intricate performance and risk measurement statistics to all stakeholders, including Directors, Trustees, senior Clinic leaders, and CCIO colleagues. 

  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Finance or Accounting 

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience at an investment firm or organization that manages a diversified portfolio of assets including equities, fixed income, alternatives and derivatives 

  • Understands investments, endowment and pension fund performance reporting, and core competencies in risk management 

  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) 

  • Background in public/investment accounting, bank custody or risk management

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. 
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.  
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.  
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.  
  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
