The Team:

We are the Self-service Technology team, and we own the Online Customer service experience on both Web and Mobile and other touch points to eBay customer service. The team is based in different locations, and we work on technologies such as Java, Node.js, web-services, browser-related technologies (jQuery, HTML5, etc.), iOS, Android and database solutions (NoSQL, Oracle, etc.). The team also has an active AI Roadmap building Natural language Customer service bots and Search products. We build scalable and highly-available systems for the millions of users that depend on us to conduct their businesses.

The Role:

As a Senior Android engineer on the Self service technology team, you should have an expert's depth and breadth of experience in Android, Java, Kotlin and Android Developer Studio as well as familiarity with the integration of network services. You should be proficient in instructing and leading by example and mentoring both junior and senior engineers.


Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Architect the development of Self-Service features in the Android application

  • Native Android app development and converting ideas, designs and requirements to concrete stable production builds

  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Product and Engineering team to identify problems, come up with creative solutions, and help with tracking and delivering within the release plan

  • Understand and implement Android specific design patterns

  • Experience with Android Studio, Java, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Dragger, network debugging (e.g. Charles), revision control systems (e.g. Git) and bug tracking (e.g. Jira)

  • Develop and iterate within a rather lean, yet very fast-paced Engineering team

  • Develop code and testing methodologies to improve the DevOps "Four Key Metrics"

Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience developing Android applications, with deep experience in both Kotlin and Java

  • Deep experience in unit testing and functional UI testing with JUnit / Espresso

  • Well versed in SOLID principles

  • Experience with Android Studio

  • Experience with modern design patterns such as MVVM, Dependency Injection, etc.

  • Ability to collaborate and drive best practices with engineers from numerous teams

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • Experience working with services teams to design optimal mobile services contracts

  • B.S Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or equivalence

You will also be expected to:

  • Evangelize, mentor, and promote mobile development best practices throughout the company

  • Promote a culture of "internal open source" where teams can chip in to each other's code bases regardless of organizational boundaries

  • Enjoy being on a team of motivated, collaborative, high-achievers

  • Communicate effectively within your team and across teams.

  • Identify project risks, quantify risk/benefit relationships and provide alternative solutions as well as risk mitigation.
