Overview
 

Receives and scans packages from shipping carriers such as UPS, Fed-ex and DHL, processes and tracks shipments, picks up and delivers research materials, perishable / time sensitive packages, lab equipment, and other items at numerous locations within the medical and central campus area (including Science Hill Campus).  May be required to work other receiving locations as needed. Demonstrated ability to work in an ever-changing environment and support operational needs. Must be able to operate computer tracking systems, units, and scanners.  Must provide exceptional customer service interaction, as this position and department is highly customer service driven.  Must be able to perform other duties specified as assigned including courier service.  Must have a valid driver’s license.

1. As part of the delivery services, provides general customer service support to clients on an as-needed basis. Addresses requests/concerns or refers clients to the appropriate person/department.

2. Reviews and verifies accuracy of job tickets and other office documentation. Sorts and prioritizes items for delivery. Receives, sorts, prioritizes and processes orders for delivery.

3. Drives vehicle for pick-up and delivery services. Delivers items to specific locations. Maintains the order of work area and vehicle. May repair vehicle.

4. Performs clerical functions incidental to delivery activities, including maintaining and logging orders for pickup and delivery.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated ability for receiving and delivering in a courier role. Proven ability to perform work effectively with many interruptions.

2. Proven ability navigating New Haven roadways with a delivery vehicle, while maintaining a safe driving record.

3. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task while working in a team environment. Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to count accurately.

4. Demonstrated strong customer service skills. Ability to greet and provide assistance to customers, including faculty, staff and students.

5. Computer knowledge, ability to work in database to track/retrieve information. Demonstrated ability using a scanning system for deliveries and operating computer scanners for processing packages and iPads/handheld scanners for delivery services.

Principal Responsibilities

Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience and a high school level education, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Physical Requirements Ability to operate moving equipment such as pallet jacks, delivery carts, and delivery hand trucks. Ability to load and unload delivery trucks and pull inventory items for supply orders. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds.
