Job Type: Full Time - Days including rotating weekends and holidays

Schedule: Various schedules that may include 4hr, 8hr, 10hr or 12hr shifts

Location: Various locations including UAB and St. Vincent's Facilities in the Birmingham and surrounding areas

What You Will Do: The Admissions Coordinator is responsible for managing inpatient and outpatient admissions. Registers incoming patients, enters information on admitting forms, explains hospital regulations, and may assign patients to rooms based on the nature of the illness and the type of accommodations available. May prepare identification bracelets and assist in insurance matters. Serves as a liaison between patients, their families, visitors, and the hospital (administration, management, hospital staff, medical staff, etc.)

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collects complete and accurate patient demographic, insurance, and financial information through patient interviews, physician offices, and internal departments.

  • Obtains required signatures on legal consent forms and insurance documentation.

  • Performs pre-certifications, credit referrals, authorization verifications, and deposit collections.

  • Enters patient information into multiple computer systems and documents incomplete registrations/admissions according to established procedures.

  • Secures and records authorization, referral, and pre-certification numbers in patient records.

  • Communicates insurance coverage issues, copayments, deductibles, and deposit requirements to patients, family members, physicians, and supervisors.

  • Reviews physician orders to ensure all required information is complete and accurate.

  • Ensures Medicare compliance and obtains Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABNs) when necessary.

  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local insurance laws and regulations.

  • Provides excellent customer service and escalates unresolved issues to supervisors as needed.

  • Answers incoming phone calls, follows established scripts, and assists callers.

  • Completes assigned shift responsibilities accurately and within required timeframes.

  • Adheres to all client safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Effectively utilizes multiple computer systems and applications.

What You Will Need:

  • High School Diploma or GED or 2+ years of relevant experience in lieu of the education

  • 0-2+ years of prior relevant experience in healthcare or customer service

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM.·

  • Familiarity with medical terminology·

  • 1 year of experience with Patient Registration·

  • 1 year of experience working with medical insurances.
