The Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse responsible for leading a clinical unit or service line to ensure high-quality patient care, staff engagement, and operational excellence. This role oversees clinical, financial, and staffing functions while fostering a safe, collaborative, and professional work environment.

Serving as the unit’s chief retention and safety officer, the Nurse Manager uses data-driven decision-making to improve outcomes and proactively manage risk. The role promotes accountability, supports staff development, and upholds standards outlined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association.

Core Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Resources and Support:

  • Leads staff engagement through shared governance and supports patient-centered care delivery systems.

  • Serves as the unit’s chief retention and safety officer—strategically managing human and material resources.

  • Manages financial performance; applies lean principles to reduce waste and improve care delivery systems.

  • Integrates marketing and communication strategies to strengthen the service line and organization.

Interdisciplinary Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, sets performance expectations, and ensures accountability.

  • Proactively promotes a healthy work environment, resolving conflict in partnership with Human Resources when needed.

  • Builds strong relationships with staff, departments, and medical staff; fosters a fair, just culture.

  • Develops opportunities for team growth and implements strategies to recruit and retain top talent.

Exemplary Practice & Outcomes

  • Promotes clinical competence and high standards of care among staff.

  • Ensures compliance with ethical, professional, and corporate standards.

  • Demonstrates transformational leadership and mentors future nurse leaders.

  • Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement.

  • Participates in value analysis and product evaluations.

  • Identifies risks and ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Uses data and evidence to drive decisions while respecting patient and staff confidentiality.

Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in NursingRequired

  • Master’s Degree in NursingPreferred

Licensure & Certification

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the State of Georgia or eligible under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart AssociationRequired on first day of employment

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of progressive nursing management experienceRequired
