The Senior Director of Pharmacy provides enterprise leadership for Drug Information, Formulary Management, Drug Use Policy, Clinical Services, and Pharmacy Research, driving evidence-based medication use and advancing clinical pharmacy practice across Cleveland Clinic. This executive leader oversees enterprise formulary strategy, medication-use policies, and drug information while partnering with clinical and operational leaders to optimize medication management, support multidisciplinary care programs, and align pharmacy services with organizational priorities. 

 

Responsibilities include evaluating and expanding clinical pharmacy services through data-driven outcomes, leading research initiatives that improve patient care and operational performance and identifying opportunities to demonstrate the value of pharmacy services through analytics, quality metrics, and outcome measurement. The Senior Director also plays a key role in enterprise governance, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration, supporting initiatives such as anticoagulation management, specialty pharmacy optimization, medication adherence, and other innovative programs that enhance patient outcomes and advance the organization's pharmacy strategy.

 

A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Plans, implements, and directs pharmacy operations based on accepted standards of professional practice and state and federal laws.
  • Ensures adequate professional and technical staff development to assist in meeting departmental goals.
  • Responsible for business development and profit and loss responsibility.
  • Develops relationships with key stakeholders to promote and enhance pharmacy services across the enterprise.
  • Ensures the development of pharmacy services and provision of exemplary patient care.
  • Leads pharmacy teams to obtain enterprise goals.
  • Directs quality improvement and cost savings initiatives.
  • Establishes performance metrics around quality and service including financial targets.
  • Through coaching and mentoring, provides ongoing performance feedback to assigned employees.
  • Communicates a strong service management philosophy and develops programs and supports for the staff to follow this philosophy
  • Monitors national and international trends and forecasts to develop priorities aimed towards growth objectives.  Keeps abreast of new procedures and developments and recommends and implements new concepts or changes.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Advanced degree -- PharmD., Master's of Science degree, or Master's of Business Administration degree
  • A minimum of 10 years in an equivalent role within a health system environment may offset the advanced degree requirement
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience required
  • Active in local, state, and national pharmacy professional organizations
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Residency-trained
  • Experience in a large tertiary health system

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting for prolonged periods of time, ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone and in person and ability to travel to various locations.
