Our goal at DICK’S Sporting Goods is to personalize the majority of our omni channel interactions with Athletes.  We will achieve this through digital tools powered by Athlete data to enable personalization across the DICK’S ecosystem. 

The Principal Product Strategist - Personalization’s responsibilities will center on the fundamentals of the Personalization Program vision and product strategy at DICK’S Sporting Goods.  They will collaborate across business functions to work with key stakeholders in the identification of personalization objectives and devise goals and tangible outcomes for the organization.  They will compress personalization themes into a detailed roadmap that is shared across business and technology teams.   

The Principal Product Strategist will have a deep understanding of the end-to-end Athlete experience and their journey across channels to define and execute on “moments that matter”.  The Principal Product Strategist - Personalization will analyze complex omni-journeys and metrics to test new ideas and prove Athlete and brand value. They will also prioritize features and track the overall Personalization program’s return on investment.  At DICK’S, our Athlete-centric vision is to create deeper engagement with our Athletes to deliver on their personal goals in Sport, and we are looking for leaders who want to join us in this journey.

As a Principal Product Strategist, you will lead the product strategy efforts for highly complex, strategic enterprise programs that may span across multiple portfolios and/or products. In this role, you enable the delivery of product experiences rooted in lean product management and human-centered design principles that support current strategic priorities. Your influence and expertise enable you to promote the value of product strategy as you continue to build partnerships and alignment in support of the work you are leading. As a product strategy leader, you provide direct oversight in the organization, interconnectedness, and delivery of high-quality products within the Technology organization.

Strategy & Communication
As the Principal Product Strategist, you are accountable for organizing and communicating a cohesive strategy with the business and your technology peers for large bodies of work. You will provide a macro view of priorities as well as executive-friendly updates on the roadmap progress, customer journey, and value delivery.

Organizational Alignment & Agility
As a Principal Product Strategist, negotiation and cross-functional alignment with technology and business leadership is essential for the success of the work. As such, you will manage ceremonies and build/update tools to ensure key members of the organization are informed, aligned and can drive decisions on priorities and investments. As part of this effort, you will discuss necessary resource needs (or constraints), agree on the cross-functional roadmap, and determine the strategic partnerships needed to enable successful teams.

Prioritization, Planning & Execution
This role enables cross-functional teams to deliver against integrated roadmaps and sets of outcomes aligned to an enterprise strategy or program. You will work with teammates across technology and the business on a consistent basis to drive alignment and execution on priorities, setting targets for progress and managing risk across the work.

Human-Centered Advocate
Expanding our understanding, demonstration, and application of human-centered design; stakeholder exposure and involvement in customer-centric activities; and finding creative ways to influence and elevate design thinking across multiple products.

Leadership
As an Individual Contributor, you will fulfill a pivotal leadership role within the organization by bringing cross-functional teams together across technology and business to deliver highly visible, critical, and complex work. You will facilitate the execution of work through complex journeys – including partnership with product teams, program and portfolio management, stakeholders, technology partners and third parties.

Feedback
As a member of the leadership team, it is essential to provide the appropriate forums to seek feedback and understanding amongst your teams, stakeholders, and leadership to aggregate and activate this feedback in meaningful ways. When conflict arises, it is critical to resolve quickly to keep the work on track.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership – How you expand your influence through strategy, decision making, coaching, and management

This role is an Individual Contributor leadership role; however, you will manage a group of cross-functional Technology teammates within a portfolio(s) as well as business stakeholders to execute on key deliverables based on enterprise initiative or program needs.

Enlist & Enable Stakeholders

  • Uses evidence-based influencing skills to mobilize cross-functional teams across technology and business domains.

  • Facilitates workshops with stakeholders, product teams and technology partners to drive the strategy and alignment across the work.

  • Conducts a steering committee of technology and stakeholder leadership members to maintain program alignment and address challenges.

  • Provides executive-level prioritization and progress updates to senior leadership.

  • Translates stakeholder knowledge as inputs to prioritization and product vision.

  • Identifies and collaborates with stakeholders to improve business proficiency as well as influence others on the value and implementation of human-centered design principles.

Leadership & People Management

  • Uses organizational agility to influence teammates and peers without formal authority

  • Conducts coaching conversations and delivers effective feedback to teammates on strategic enterprise programs, where appropriate

  • Creates a people-first culture where teammates thrive.

  • Exerts confidence and deep understanding in both the Product Management & Product Design craft.

  • Advocates for and actively participates in the Product & Design Community of Practice

  • Recruits, interviews and aids in the selection of top talent (as required)

Strategy – How you understand and plan within a product team that solves customer problems and drives market impact

The Principal Product Strategist manages across product teams, technology teams and business partners to build the strategy, create the roadmap and report on the value for large, cross-functional bodies of work.

Form Strategy & Prioritize Work

  • Leads high complexity, high criticality enterprise initiatives and large bodies of work.

  • Defines the strategy in support of the vision across bodies of work.

  • Creates the discovery strategy for the body of work and identifies new product opportunities.

  • Builds the roadmap, collaboratively, based on outcomes for strategic enterprise needs.

  • Uses decision support tools to weigh the competing factors and objectives for the work.

  • Effectively explains ‘why’ work was prioritized for executive-level consumption.

  • Communicates the cross-functional roadmap strategy to the relevant leadership, teammates and stakeholders.

  • Explains the value of discovery and testing to the relevant leadership, teammates and stakeholders.

Identify Opportunities

  • Leads discovery and uses data to identify customer pain points across multiple domains and portfolios.

  • Identifies patterns in data and builds expanded research models.

  • Identifies the right problems and prioritizes for the best business outcomes.

  • Sets the long-term product vision across strategic large bodies of work.

  • Utilizes mixed methods of research, experimentation and design thinking practices to identify patterns and formulate a strategy.

Gather Feedback, Form & Track KPIs/Metrics

  • Uses goal framework tools to set metrics and product outcomes across a body of work.

  • Identifies patterns through behavioral and usage trends.

  • Builds product objectives and goals in collaboration with key stakeholders and partners.

  • Builds discovery objectives and goals across large bodies of work.

  • Gathers data and conducts research to identify ROI.

  • Uses data to effectively articulate the product story and customer needs.

  • Drives accountability – facilitates data-driven ROI ceremonies with cross-functional teams and stakeholders within a cross-functional body of work.

  • Measures adoption, usage data and business impact of launches to prove ROI across the work.

Execution – How you support and provide oversight to the design and delivery of solutions to our customers

The Principal Product Strategist must know how to execute on the key services and deliverables; however, they are accountable to facilitate the execution of deliverables through others.

Deliver Products/Features

  • Identifies and mitigates dependencies across cross-functional teams and stakeholders across a body of work.

  • Identifies and communicates risks associated with the product roadmap and deliverables.

  • Guides the creation of the release plan (who, what and when) including feature prioritization.

  • Leads a weekly sprint planning or iteration planning meeting with cross-functional teams.

  • Provides oversight in the creation of discovery objectives and goals in collaboration with the product team(s) and stakeholders.

  • Provides oversight and review for UI designs, utilizing our design system, Homefield

  • Acts as the senior technical expert within a portfolio(s)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superior knowledge and application of lean product management frameworks.

Targeted Pay Range: $95,200 - $158,800. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
