Key Responsibilities:
The Industrial Hygiene Advisor will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following.
• To serve as a full member of the EHS R&D team which includes providing EHS support to R&D, support to capital and site minor works projects and emergency response to the site.
• Ability to perform Industrial Hygiene monitoring, analyze results and issue industrial hygiene reports.
• To manage site industrial hygiene plans including exposure monitoring/modeling, containment testing, and hearing conservation needs.
• To manage site respirator protection program.
• To ensure Industrial Hygiene considerations are incorporated into relevant capital and site minor works projects.
• To ensure that senior managers within the business are fully apprised of their responsibilities in risk management and pro-actively support EHS objectives.
• To ensure Industrial Hygiene risks to the business are effectively identified and managed by the provision of industry leading technical innovation and support.
• To ensure the interests of the business are represented and protected, both within and external to GSK.
• To maintain comprehensive external and cross business awareness and lead and participate in significant cross company initiatives.
• To lead the site Ergonomic Improvement Team, reviewing associated adverse events, updates in requirements, and sharing best practices for industrial ergonomics.
• To provide consultation for indoor air quality concerns or investigations.
Accountability:
• Accountable for alerting management to legislative development in the areas of Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene which could impact operations.
• Champion the discipline of Industrial Hygiene throughout the US by ensuring senior management understanding, commitment and accountability.
• Ensure that the IH programs deliver value to the business via increased workplace safety, reduced environmental impact, increased regulatory compliance and reduction of direct and indirect costs.
• Provide technical Industrial Hygiene support to the business.
• Accountable for ensuring full Industrial Hygiene regulatory compliance.
• Represent the interests of GSK in key external policy forums.
• Champion the interests of stakeholders within the business in GSK EHS policy and strategy development.
Complexity:
• Shaping change in the external environment is a key job factor. Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty in rapidly changing situations is required. Autonomous decision making is often essential.
• The breadth and number of activities directed by this position necessitates strong prioritization skills and the ability to manage tasks concurrently. Many of these tasks are initiated by the job holder; others come from internal customers and other stakeholders external to GSK. Deadlines are negotiable, but the job holder is required to make independent decisions as necessary.
• Extensive matrix working and influencing required for sites without full time IH staff. Influencing and negotiation required to ensure appropriate resourcing and commitment from other divisional managers.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
Bachelor’s Degree in industrial hygiene or scientific related discipline.
5 or more years of Industrial Hygiene experience to include hands on experience performing industrial hygiene sampling.
Experience developing strong industrial hygiene programs.
Experience in performing assessments and providing direction for areas utilizing asphyxiation agents to reduce risk.
Experience working with legislation relating to industrial hygiene, safety & environment.
Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
Industrial Hygiene Certificate preferred.
Strong leadership abilities to influence senior GSK managers and stakeholders
An awareness of current developments and emerging scientific & technical issues
Pharmaceutical IH experience including surrogate sampling and exposure banding knowledge.
Good interpersonal, presentational and persuasive skills so as to successfully interact with managers at all levels.
