A Non-Registered Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Technician is an uncertified professional who performs monitoring of a patient's nervous system during surgery. They work under the direct supervision of a certified or supervising physician and must still possess the necessary education and training required by their employer. This role will allow you to advance your skills, leading to the ability to become certified and advance your career.
A caregiver in this position works days from 6:00AM – 2:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform IOM monitoring and EP evaluations.
Perform somatosensory evoked potentials of the upper and lower extremities on cases involving potential compromise of the posterior spinal cord.
Learn with the help of a Registered IOM Technologist functional mapping on extra operative invasive monitored patients using SSEP.
Perform motor evoked potentials using internal and external stimulators on cases involving potential compromise of the anterior spinal cord.
Assists other IOM technologists with electrodes, patient history, and technical problems.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate's Degree in Electroneurodiagnostics or related patient care field
Successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) or R. EP T. (Registered Evoked Potential Technologist) within two years of hire
Completion of one year at CCF as an IOM Tech Trainee
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 200 pounds.
Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
Requires some exposure to communicable disease and body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
