Job Title: Lead Technical Writer – Embedded Developer Tools

Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Lead Technical Writer to join our team and help document our suite of developer tools in the embedded software development space. This role requires someone who can rapidly learn technical details and work closely with engineers to ensure the accuracy and clarity of the documentation, and create high-value content for embedded engineers.
You will play a key role in creating, updating, and publishing comprehensive, engaging content for internal and client developer audiences. You may also contribute to communication strategies that encourage engagement via blog posts, social media, and multimedia resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document developer tools: Create and maintain detailed documentation for embedded developer tools, including toolchains, IDEs, debugging utilities, and profiling tools.
- Learn and communicate technical concepts: Dive deep into unfamiliar technical areas, gaining a strong understanding of tools and features you may have a short amount of time to document.
- Collaborate with engineers: Work closely with software engineers and product teams in multiple countries to ensure documentation is technically accurate and clearly communicates how to use the tools.
- Visual content creation: Create and incorporate screenshots, diagrams, and other visual aids to complement written documentation.
- User guides and tutorials: Write clear, comprehensive user guides, API references, tutorials, and best practices to help embedded developers use our tools effectively.
- Continuous updates: Keep documentation accurate and relevant as new features are added or software changes.
- Content management: Organize and structure content logically, making it easy for developers to find relevant information quickly.
- Stakeholder collaboration: Actively participate in discussions with engineering, product management, and support teams to gather feedback and ensure that documentation addresses real user needs.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience writing software documentation for targeted audiences in the embedded software development or related technical field/s, using a docs-as-code approach.
- Ability to collaborate with software engineering teams in multiple international time zones, both in real time and asynchronously, to understand and communicate complex tools and workflows.
- Strong visual skills: Creating and incorporating screenshots, diagrams, and other visual elements into documentation to clarify concepts and enhance usability.
- Experience with version control systems such as GitHub.
- Proficiency with technical documentation authoring languages and tools such as Markdown, Sphinx, and Doxygen.
- Basic understanding of fundamental software development concepts and the ability to explain them to targeted audiences.
- Experience with independently managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Exemplary editorial skills, including hands-on experience working with multiple general and technical style guides for US English.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with embedded systems development and the software development lifecycle.
- Experience documenting developer tools such as compilers, debuggers, IDEs, build systems, or related software.
- Experience with embedded toolchains, IDEs, or debuggers, especially in systems like ARM, RISC-V, or Xtensa.
- Familiarity with open-source communities and the open-source documentation processes.
- Basic understanding of software development languages, such as C, C++, or Python.
- Experience creating drafts from the ground up.
- Experience in creating video tutorials or multimedia content to complement written documentation.
