Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role you will be part of Global EHS Risk Central Services, responsible for implementing robust and innovative EHS Risk Management Programs. 

 

This role will be key to supporting the Amgen network growth of existing products as well as supporting EHS needs in new therapeutic areas and molecules from Amgen’s extensive pipeline. 

 

In line with Amgen READ (Reliability, Efficiency, Agility & Differentiation) the role will: 

  • Improve reliability through standardization of methods, formats, and training.  

  • Drive efficiencies through elimination of duplicate EHS Risk activities/documents at multiple sites for common tasks. 

  • Increase agility by using Artificial Intelligence and other new IS platforms in EHS Risk Management  

  • Ensure effective Risk Management resource use becomes a competitive advantage.  

 

This will include a strong focus on Serious Injury or Fatality (SIF) risks to enable better risk analysis and strategic planning and use of Risk Management resources. 

 

These activities are critical to ensure all hazards are identified, effectively assessed and actions taken to eliminate or reduce risk of fatality, serious injury, staff lost time, property damage or business interruption in Operations, Research & Development and Global Commercial Organization 

 

The successful candidate will have a proven history in driving excellence as well as an in-depth understanding of small molecule and large molecule discovery, development and manufacturing in both drug substance and drug product areas to actively support Amgen’s growing portfolio of medicines. 

 

Strong leadership skills are needed to affect change by influencing Operations, GCO and R&D leadership to achieve the highest Risk Management standards. These skills include:  

 

  • Practical integration of EHS processes with client business practices. 

  • Delivering results through influencing and communicating effectively with clients 

  • Independently driving improvement in EHS performance.  

  • Managing complex problems and coordinating the implementation of innovative solutions. 

  • Challenging the norm and being a source of constructive disruptive ideas. 

 

Functions (Duties/Accountabilities): 

  • Lead assigned aspects of development of effective Risk Management Program 

  • Lead ongoing improvements in JHA use. 

  • Support improvements in EHS aspects of Acquisition & Divestiture process. 

  • Develop, coach and mentor EHS colleagues in best use of Risk Management tools. 

  • Where needed, facilitate complex or high hazard Risk Assessments using process hazard evaluation techniques such as What If, HAZOP, FMEA etc. to support site EHS and Engineering Projects deliverables. 

  • Provide EHS input on typical project documents including process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, equipment specifications, design drawings etc. when asked. 

  • Function as a key partner with Engineering on their Safety Code Compliance process, to help drive ongoing improvements in this process. 

Participate in Corporate Audit process on key program areas to assess compliance and regulatory inspection readiness. 

  • Support continuous improvement of assigned Amgen core EHS programs and processes to ensure effectiveness and compliance. 

 

Liaisons: 

  • Reports to EHS Director Risk 

  • Participates on selected EHS Global Network Teams 

  • Frequently interacts with EHS and Function Leadership 

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience OR 

  • Master’s degree & 8 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience OR 

  • Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Pharma or Biopharma experience 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or other science areas  

  • 10 or more years of experience in Risk Management, including developing and implementing EHS risk management programs in Pharma / Biopharma. 

  • Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological commercial (GMP and non-GMP) and laboratory operations. 

  • Knowledge of European and/or US regulations relevant to Pharma / Biopharma operations. 

  • Familiarity with typical project documents including Basis of Safety, process diagrams, P&ID’s, equipment specifications, design drawings etc.  

  • Experience in Qualitative and Quantitative risk assessments, including one or more of HAZOP, What-If, PrHA, PHA, FMEA, LOPA 

  • Familiarity with risks and controls around high potency compounds 

  • Familiarity with risks and controls around flammable and explosive atmospheres. 

  • Well-developed skills in leadership, communication, program development and project management. 

  • Proficiency in risk management platforms, Microsoft Office, Smartsheet and other computer software systems. 

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of time.

130,413.00 USD - 152,187.00 USD
