Job Description Summary:

The Director oversees the operations of the Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center, ensures regulatory compliance, and focuses on quality assurance and quality control in imaging projects performed in service to research programs at KUMC and affiliated institutions. The Director also leads efforts for technical innovation and development of imaging technologies and leads teams in selecting and installing new technology. Coordinates with healthcare professionals and manages staff to achieve optimal outcomes. Demonstrates a clear understanding of core business structures, systems, best practices, trends and technologies. The position requires a solid commitment to strong partnerships with the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Kansas University Medical Center, The University of Kansas, The University of Kansas Health Systems, and related basic, translational and clinical research programs. The Director will implement approaches that are closely aligned to organizational efforts and strategic plans, as evidenced by focused efforts on customer relations, quality initiatives, financial performance and operational efficiencies.

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Medicine, or equivalent related degree in areas of physics, biology, radiology, or similar program.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of Medical Imaging Experience

  • 2+ years directing a human imaging facility

  • An established and externally funded research program related to programmatic strengths at KUMC.

  • Experience in teaching in areas relevant to technological or biological aspects on imaging

Job Duties

Director

  • Oversees and directs operations related to human imaging including Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computed Tomography (CT), and related imaging technologies.

  • Develops and executes operational strategies that will achieve key results aligned with the objectives of stakeholders.

  • Develops sound business models for ensuring provision of equitable and cost-effective services to users, and to pursue efficiencies toward reducing reliance on institutional resources.

  • Maintains a strong national presence in the field as evidenced by participation in societies, peer review groups, conferences, etc.

  • Develops and maintains strong strategic partnerships with School, University, and Health System leadership, and with research-intensive units including departments, cores, centers and institutes.

  • Establishes and maintains key performance indicators to measure and improve service levels, quality, and operational efficiency.

  • Serves as a liaison, bridging human imaging with animal imaging operations and other related imaging technologies.

  • Develops strategies for growing the base of users from within the KUMC community and from key strategic partners.

  • Identifies resources, and incorporates new technologies including software and equipment, and actively innovates imaging techniques at the University.  Maintains a collaborative relationship with vendors and other providers of technology.

  • Monitors and evaluates operational performance indicators of staff, taking corrective actions when necessary.

  • Provides strong leadership, fostering a high-performance culture that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Provides mentoring and career development strategies for faculty and staff at all levels.

  • Creates an environment in which people feel valued, respected, and energized to innovate and take calculated risks in the interest of advancing operations.

  • Identifies improvement opportunities and collaborates with process improvement colleagues to implement processes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows, eliminate bottlenecks, and enhance operational processes.

  • Creates a strongly customer-focused culture that emphasizes the importance of end user perceptions and incents model behavior aimed at elevating customer satisfaction.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Associate or Full Professor

  • Position will be filled at the associate or full professor level, and will be tenure eligible or tenured at the time of hire.

  • Will be an active faculty member of the Department of Radiology, including service on committees and attendance at key or required Department activities.

  • Will participate in educational activities aligned with the needs of the Department and the School.

  • Will maintain a high level of scholarship which will include actively publishing scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and maintaining an externally funded research program with significant effort and salary support derived from this program.
