As a principal designer for Hatch, your role is twofold: 1) To champion and lead the planning, coordinating and implementation of a cohesive experience across our digital channels and touchpoints 2) To be a design leader, a force multiplier with the rest of the product team to embed ownership and responsibility in delivering designs that look and feel like they come from the same system, and have Hatch written all over them.  You'll have a well-rounded set of core design skills, from understanding user needs to wireframes to prototypes usable enough for testing and research. You will strive to develop the skills and ability to distill needs and desired outcomes into delightful user experiences. 

This role plays a critical role as we look to scale and grow our business, platform and design knowledge. 

Like most roles at Hatch, this is highly collaborative, with the success of Hatch being the primary driver for all decisions. You will be joined at the hip with our product owners working side by side with our engineering, customer success, optimisation, business analysts and marketing teams to ensure we have consistency across our digital channels and product experiences.

Scope 

To be a successful principal designer for Hatch, you will have deep context of the product, competition, and design and rationalise our foundational systems. You will champion and enable cross functional teams to use our design system and help them adopt good design principles and advocate for our customers at all times.  

 

You will contribute to identifying new business and customer problems and opportunities and drive user-centered design solutions to them through our digital channels and touchpoints. 

 

These include the core Hatch app, our website, emails and other internal applications used by our staff to support our day-to-day operations. 

 

You will also have a strong influence and part to play in improving our design processes and tools, and support the design director in making decisions to continuously improve the efficiency and health of the design team. 

Design Leadership 

 

 

An internal champion for the power of design to fuel the growth of Hatch. Get to know Hatch inside and out and Identify potential areas of improvement. 

 

A relentless focus on the customer and solving their problems. Strong problem definition and articulation – challenge assumptions and 'pre-set' thinking around solutions, agree the purpose, principles and vision. 

 

As a design leader you’ll help other designers teams to deliver work that embeds ownership and pride,  inspiring them to take ownership of our work together. You will help to ensure that our design team is healthy and delivering great work alongside the rest of the delivery team. 

Design 

Work on design problems from beginning to end - from concepting the next great product feature to sketches to tweaking the finer details while in the wild.  

 

Create user scenarios, mockups and flows. Produce rapid prototypes to validate design concepts with the wider team.  

Craft beautiful interfaces and care about the details at every step of the journey from concept to validation to shipped code. Successfully communicate design specifications to engineers using Figma, our design tool and other tools like Trello, Miro and Confluence. We also believe strongly in communicating verbally and “jamming” with people involved in creating Hatch experience.  

Research, Analysis, and Testing 

Work closely with the business to ensure a data-driven approach to analyse and deeply understand the success or failure of product features to refine and meet our product and wider business goals. 

 

Continuously optimise efforts based on behavioural data using tools available to us such as Google Analytics, DataDog and other tools we may adopt, and customer feedback. Cultivate a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people our product is designed for. 

 

Stay on top of UX trends and look for creative ideas and inspiration in parallel worlds. 

 

Stay up to date on evaluating market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape. 

Hatch Dream Team Contributor  

Collaborate and actively engage with the rest of the delivery teams (engineers and stakeholders that take various parts in delivering Hatch to our customers such as CX and Ops) using agreed-upon tools like Trello, Slack, email, Teams, Figma, Miro, Google Suite

Develop and manage working relations with relevant Hatch and FNZ functional teams (Legal, AML, Compliance and IT)  

Risk and compliance 

Seek to innovate in a complex regulatory environment and to understand, report and manage operational and compliance risk. This includes understanding Hatch and FNZ’s AML/KYC/CDD obligations and complying with relevant policies. 

Health and Safety
