Job Summary:
We’re looking for a Product Development Engineer II to support the ongoing operations and maintenance of cloud-based databases that power Disney’s Ad Technology platforms. Thisrole focuses on the DBA function, including hands-on management of Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, SingleStore, and related infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for incident response, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and schema change coordination, while also contributing to Terraform modules and operational automation. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in production environments and is passionate about ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of cloud-native data systems at scale.
Responsibilities:
· Database Operations & Support: Provide direct hands-on support for production and non-prod databases (Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, SingleStore), including incident response, performance tuning, availability monitoring, patching, and backup/restore
· Infrastructure Automation: Develop and maintain Terraform modules, scripts, and tools to provision, update, and manage cloud database resources and configuration
· Schema Change Management & RCA: Execute and support schema changes, participate in change reviews, and perform root cause analysis for database-related incidents
· Collaboration & Delivery: Work with platform, application, and data teams to ensure safe integration of database services into broader Ad Tech workflows
· Documentation & Best Practices: Contribute to runbooks, procedures, and operational standards that support consistent and reliable database operations
Basic Qualifications:
· 2+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or database engineering roles with a focus on hands-on operations
· Direct experience managing cloud-native databases such as Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL/MySQL), DynamoDB, and SingleStore
· Proven ability to perform backup/restore, patching, availability management, and performance tuning in production environments
· Experience executing schema changes,supporting migrations, and applying safe rollout practices
· Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure services, including IAM, VPC, KMS, and networking basics (e.g., ALB/NLB)
· Practical experience with Terraform orsimilar IaC tools to provision and maintain database infrastructure
· Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go for automating operational tasks and monitoring
· Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills for production database issues
· Solid collaboration and communication skills with platform, application, and SRE teams
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working in multi-tenant or compliance-driven environments (e.g., SOX, PCI, CCPA) · Familiarity with automated schema deployment tools, database CI/CD, or change management processes
· Exposure to Datadog, CloudWatch, or similar tools for observability and alerting on database health and performance
· Understanding of AWS cost optimization strategies for RDS, DynamoDB, and related services
· Familiarity with role-based access control (RBAC), encryption practices (KMS/TLS), and security policies for databases
· Experience supporting globally distributed or cross-region infrastructure
Required Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
