Founded in 2019, Transmutex aims to reinvent nuclear energy/medicine/waste recycling by using an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and Thorium fuel based on existing long-lived radioactive waste allows to generate energy intrinsically safe and recycle the stockpile of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant way.

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Material Scientist to join our team and contribute to the study, characterization and development of innovative material solutions for advanced nuclear technologies.

Key Responsibilities
-Design, plan, and monitor experiments in collaboration with internal engineering teams, experimental facilities, and external research and industrial partners.
- Analyse and evaluate material behaviour to inform design hypotheses and material selection processes.
- Oversee material characterization campaigns, including testing under extreme conditions such as irradiation and exposure to hot, flowing liquid lead.
- Conduct post-irradiation examinations (PIE) and interpret test results to assess mechanical, chemical, and microstructural performance.
- Support the setup and operation of experimental facilities for material testing under liquid lead environments and radiation fields.
- Prepare technical reports, present findings, and provide recommendations for material improvements in the design of ADS systems..

Requirements
The candidates we are looking for must have
-A Master or PhD in Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in material testing and characterization.
- Solid knowledge of material behaviour under extreme environments, such as irradiation and liquid metal exposure. Knowledge of metallurgy is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with advanced characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, mechanical testing) and post-irradiation examination (PIE).
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret experimental results to guide material selection and improvements.
- Experience with liquid lead or lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) corrosion studies and mitigation strategies

Additionally, it will be an advantage if you have
- Familiarity with fast reactors, ADS technologies, or nuclear structural materials.
- Previous experience collaborating on large-scale experimental campaigns or projects involving research facilities.
- Previous professional experience in Class A radioactive laboratories is an advantage.
- Knowledge of material modelling tools for radiation damage and/or erosion/corrosion.
- Proficiency in French or German

Apply by January 31, 2025.
