As Patient Companion, you will help facilitate this mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. This is a PRN position. A caregiver in this position will work 48 hours every six weeks.

  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, taking vital signs/weight and pulse oximetry.  
  • Assure patient safety by ensuring catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.  
  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation.  
  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.  
  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within three months of hire 
  • Completion of a hospital-based Patient Companion Training Program or equivalent experience OR currently enrolled at an accredited school of Nursing, with completion of a Nursing Fundamentals Course OR completed hospital-based NA/PC orientation or equivalent 
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
