Health Promotion Coordinator

Pay range: $20 - $25/hr

The Opportunity Alliance is looking to fill a Health Promotion Coordinator role with our Healthy Lakes program.

This Health Promotion Coordinator will provide community-based nutrition education services to residents of all ages from communities with populations eligible for SNAP benefits in the Lakes Region of Cumberland County. Most work will be completed in the Lakes Region with one day a week in South Portland at TOA Headquarters.

TOA Health Promotion Coordinators ensure that children, adults and families from historically marginalized communities will have improved nutrition by:

  • Planning, shopping, and preparing nutrition education programming;
  • Recruiting eligible participants and sites for delivery of nutrition education programming;
  • Delivering nutrition education to various SNAP eligible groups utilizing existing program materials; and
  • Providing content expertise and technical assistance in the areas of nutrition education.

They provide support for the implementation of policy, systems, and environmental change to area schools, childcare sites, community sites, food pantries, housing sites, and immigrant-led community-based organization sites, by but not limited to:

  • Providing technical assistance for increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships to coordinate efforts to reduce systemic barriers to food and nutrition access; and
  • Presenting findings utilizing various forms of communication, written and verbal.
  • Maintaining accurate participation data, and submitting reports per funder requirements;
  • Submitting accurate program-related expenses and receipts and mileage reports promptly;
  • Assisting supervisor in identified administrative aspects of the SNAP-Ed Program; and
  • Accurately collecting and preparing program evaluation materials.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement by:

  • Actively participating in supervision with direct supervisor; and
  • Achieving personal and professional goals as negotiated each year.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Location: Portland, ME

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor or Associates degree in public health, health equity, community health, nutrition, culinary arts or education. In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 3 years of equivalent experience in a community health, nutrition, or education setting may be considered.
  • Experience implementing nutrition education and health advocacy, and experience teaching various age groups in a wide range of settings preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements necessary for this position.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office suite mandatory. Must be able to learn Agency and SNAP-Ed specific data and reporting platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, mandatory.
  • Preference will be given to individuals:
    • With lived experience as a SNAP recipient.
    • Who are multilingual, French, Portuguese, Lingala desired. English proficiency, verbal and written, is mandatory.
    • Who have a demonstrated ability to communicate cross culturally.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with significant standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and frequently lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings and for the occasional need to meet with clients offsite and within the program service area.  This may include transportation of clients or driving to agency location to complete work.  A good driving record is required.
