  • Responsible to the Port Engineer or Chief Engineer (if applicable) for the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and associated equipment on board Company vessels.
  • Ensure that all work carried out in the engine room and on board Company vessels is done in a safe and professional manner in compliance with safe-working practices.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence with Company PPE policy at all times.
  • Compliance with reporting procedures as required by the Port Engineer.
  • Ensure all stand-by equipment is maintained and in a high state of readiness at all times.
  • Ensure that engine room log book is legible, accurate and kept up to date.
  • Identify potential hazards and failures associated with machinery and advise Tugmaster/Helmsman, and Chief Engineer (if applicable).
  • Ensure, in conjunction with Tugmaster/Helmsman or Chief engineer (if applicable) that the vessel is provided with fuel oil, water, lubricating oils and machinery spare parts.
  • Maintain filing system and documentation associated with the engine room department.
  • To take charge of engine room during emergencies, or until relieved by the Chief Engineer (if applicable).
  • Ensure that watertight integrity and seaworthiness of the vessel is maintained at all times.
  • Planning and execution of all maintenance work in conjunction with Port engineer or Chief Engineer (if applicable).
  • Maintain a safe and efficient watch. Ensure that all engine/machinery parameters are normal while working. Any abnormality in sound, temperature, pressure to be reported immediately to the Port Engineer or Chief Engineer (if applicable).
  • Report all damages and irregularities to Tugmaster/Helmsman with immediate follow up report to Port Engineer or Chief Engineer (if applicable).
  • Compliance with Company policies in regards to HSE, QSMS and Security.
  • Observe all Company and National requirements/regulations with respect to environmental protection.
  • Obey all lawful orders from direct supervisor and/or shorebased management.
  • Assist in any other duties as may be reasonably required by the employer from time to time, including but not limited to Maintenance, Pollution Control, General Housekeeping, Etc,.
  • Report all non-conformities, near-misses, hazardous situations, and whenever possible make suggestions for improvement.
