The Medical Textiles Technician/Senior Medical Textiles Technician will report to Textiles Program Manager or Textiles R&D Engineer.

ROLE

The Medical Textiles Technician/Senior Medical Textiles Technician shall support the R&D/Design Services area working on the design and development of innovative textiles-based new-product concepts  - using both Biostable and Biodegradable polymer-based materials, using technologies such as Warp Knitting, Braiding, Weaving and Circular Knitting.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Perform all duties assigned by the Medical Textiles Program Manager
  • Assist in the design and development, prototype manufacturing and testing of new textiles-based devices as dictated by our Design-Services customer needs and as dictated by internal R&D Projects.
  • Carry out operations in the Manufacturing & Testing, R&D Lab and Warehouse areas (as required) including processing, packing, and labelling.
  • Demonstrate initiative in providing input to solving the processing challenges of these new products.
  • Demonstrate initiative in always working on new devices with the plan of large scale/production manufacturing in mind. Highlight any potential issue/concerns to larger volume manufacturing.
  • Complete and comply with all documentation as required in the Design & Control process (training to be provided).
  • Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practice requirements as associated with a Class8 Clean Environment
  • Take full ownership for traceability and control of all R&D materials within the cleanroom
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out in a safe manner.
  • Adhere to all General Process Specifications (GPS Procedures) as per Textiles Technician Training Plan
  • Revise Manufacturing Process Specifications and other documentation as appropriate.
  • Assist in and become involved in cost saving ideas.
  • Perform line clearances as required when processing R&D work within the cleanroom
  • Perform computer applications as required.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role ideally within a medical device environment. Excellent attention to detail, good technical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork abilities and high-initiative are all key requirements. Previous experience with polymer fibres (Biostable and/or degradable) plus experience of Warp-Knitting, Braiding, Circular Knitting or Weaving is highly desirable.
