Qualifications:

  • Post high school education or vocational training in healthcare preferred.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Purchasing experience preferred, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Possess mathematical skills to include:  adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and calculate percentage changes in price increases/decreases required.
  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed. 
  • Knowledge of medical products and commodities preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Coordinates with appropriate stakeholders to effectively set minimum and maximum levels for stock items. Utilizes MMIS data to support and ensure optimal on hand quantities.
  • Promotes Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts where available and applicable.  Obtains competitive quotes for goods and services in the absence of GPO contracts.
  • Researches purchase requests to ensure appropriate and cost effective products. Works with end users to facilitate product selection.
  • Follows up on vendor back orders and effectively communicates to end user departments any delays/product substitutions.
  • Creates purchase orders and places orders with vendors per department procedure and protocol.
  • Facilitates Item Request Template creation/management with end users and coordinates supply chain requests and purchases as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Works with Finance to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Actively reviews and updates Accrual Aging Report as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Coordinates with vendors and appropriate stakeholders in the process for returning damaged or unwanted products and creates applicable Return type Purchase Order(s) in the MMIS.
  • Maintains awareness and tracks short-term and long-term purchasing trends to improve supply chain efficiencies.
  • Tracks and reports all savings/cost avoidance achieved per department protocol.
  • As applicable to OR supply area(s); actively present and performs inventory counts for the creation of supply orders, creates STAT orders as needed, coordinates with OR staff, providers, etc. on the clinical efficacy of any alternate products, etc.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
