Supervises automotive mechanic staff. Provides automotive mechanic support and maintains vehicles.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Supervises and coordinates automotive mechanic and attendant staff activities; maintains campus vehicles.

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff. Determines appropriate work procedures, prepares and assigns work schedules.

  • Coordinates project activities with internal contacts, outside contractors, and vendors.

  • Evaluates completed work to ensure that it conforms to proper procedures and to quality and safety standards.

  • Completes list of work done, hours worked, materials used, and maintains daily time sheets; Completes service order forms and records work performed, duration, and materials used.

  • Prepares and reports time and production records as input to budgeting process.

  • Gathers information and prices for the purchase of new and used vehicles and researches trade-in values.

  • Conducts inspections and performs routine and preventative maintenance on campus vehicles and equipment including automotive, diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and marine.

  • Fabricates specialty steel products including grates and wire mesh partitions, transports vehicles to and from outside shops, and maintains shop facilities and equipment.

  • Drives Boys Town vehicles as needed to complete duties of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of automotive mechanic practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and safety procedures.

  • Knowledge of processes to make repairs to vehicle systems in multiple makes and models.

  • Ability to read automotive schematics.

  • Skills in installation, repair, or restoration automotive vehicles and components.

  • Ability to successfully lead a team of associates.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals in an articulate, professional manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive mechanics required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed; this position is on-call (continuously or rotationally) to provide support required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Vocational training preferred.

  • ASE Certification preferred.
