Job Description:

Discover will not sponsor or transfer employment work visas for this position.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

This Tableau developer will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Tableau dashboards and worksheets, business intelligence reports and insightful visualizations for Discover’s Enterprise Data Risk Management organization that will be consumed by both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsible for oversight on design and implementation of products assigned to their team. This means they can take user stories and new features from idea to production unattended. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and unit test Tableau reports and dashboards for scalability, security, performance, re-use and optimal user experience.
  • Interface with internal customers to understand the ask and purpose of the dashboard/worksheet.
  • Work with internal customers to document requirements, create, test and approve useful dashboards, worksheets and visualizations that provide insight and add value.
  • Resolve support tickets related to Tableau products deployed in our organization.
  • Ongoing review of traffic to views to understand current utilization of deployed dashboards and worksheets.
  • Analyze, design, code, test, and deploy new user stories and product features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production. Understands the software development lifecycle and leverages critical thinking skills to properly evaluate features and functionality.
  • Guides early-career engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work related tasks, directs the work of emerging talent, and helps them continue to grow in their technical skillset through mentorship.
  • Has an oversight on application, system, and architecture design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them.
  • Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures to ensure high reliability of technical solutions.
  • Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) through collaboration with other engineers, architects, product owners and data scientists.
  • Contributes to and leads technology communities of practice at Discover in areas of design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture and/or data.
  • Creates and enforces IT standards within the system/application infrastructure and compatibility with the architecture of the platform.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related
  • 3+ years of experience in Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • SQL and general database skills (bonus for direct experience with Snowflake and/or Teradata).
  • Strong grasp of calculated fields, interactive filters, parameters necessary for optimal presentation layer and user experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both for interacting with requestors as well as upstream system of record software owners to ensure data sources are accurate.
  • Strong documentation skills to maintain workflows, data flows and published dashboard functionality.
  • Experience creating Tableau Data Sources.
  • Data engineering skills – deep understanding of extract, transform and load (ETL) processes and technologies.
  • Data modeling experience.
  • Experience with data governance and data management software tools (e.g., Alation, Anomalo, Metadata Hub)

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
