NDE LEVEL II INSPECTOR, PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONIC TESTING (PAUT)

The NDE operations organization at SpaceX is an inclusive, interdisciplinary team committed to providing high-quality inspections of flight components and production assemblies. The breadth of exposure as an NDE Level II Inspector is immense, as the organization is responsible for a large diversity of inspection types across Falcon, Dragon, Starship, and Raptor programs. You will have the ability to engage with the process to provide continuous improvement to execute on the mission to make humanity interplanetary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform volumetric NDE inspections with advanced phased array ultrasonics (triple transducer crawler arrangement)
  • Interpret, evaluate, communicate, and report findings to production and engineering
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings
  • Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
  • Assist in training and developing others within the team
  • Support research and development of full matrix capture (FMC) phased array ultrasonic data for operational improvement and optimization

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • NDE level II certification in line with ASNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in ultrasonic (UT) including phased array ultrasonic (PAUT)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Additional nondestructive evaluation Level II certifications in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in one of the following methods: Eddy current (ET), radiography (RT), digital radiography (DR), dye penetrant (PT), computed radiography (CR), ultrasonic (UT), or ultrasonic shear wave (UTSW)
  • Experience using one of the listed NDE methods for the inspection of weldments, castings, or forgings 
  • 2+ years of experience as a level II nondestructive evaluation/testing inspector
  • Experience performing NDE testing within the aerospace industry
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications
  • Experience inspecting advanced materials such as high strength aluminum alloys, precipitation hardened steels, Inconel, Monel, titanium, and Maraging steel (super alloys)
  • Knowledge of UTEX InspectionWare software or equivalent
  • Knowledge of NASA 5009 standards
  • Knowledge of AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, standards
  • Experience with problem solving tools and techniques including: practical problem solving (PPS), and eight disciplines (8D)
  • Basic understanding of Lean principles: 5S, Kaizen, continuous improvement initiative

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift times:
    • 2nd shift: Monday - Friday 2:00 PM - 12:00 AM
    • 1st shift weekend: Thursday - Sunday 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    • 3rd shift weekend: 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM
  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl and maneuver in tight spaces. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time - 8 hours min

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
NDE Inspector/Level 3: $33.00 - $44.75/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 4: $38.00 - $51.50/hour
NDE Inspector/Level 5: $43.00 - $58.25/hour
 
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
